So, I believe there is already a thread like this but, it is quite old. So, I thought I’d make a new one!
We all know there is names we like but don’t love the meaning on.
Whether it be Hades, Lucifer and Karma for someone who is religious. Or Christian and Jesus for someone who is Atheist.
But, what are names you don’t like but absolutely love the meaning of?
I’ll go first!
Cherry (or Cherie) - darling or my dear.
Mabel - lovable.
Cordelia - heart ; daughter of the sea (my cousin actually has a daughter named this!)
Mila - dear.
Lennon - lover.
Milena - love, warmth, grace.
Aldebrand - old ; sword ; fire (cool!)
Teagan - little poet ; fair.
Ceridwen - beautiful as a poem (the name grows on me and then I stop liking it.)
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. The meaning is fabulous but I just can’t fall for the name as I know many Berries have, even though I can see why others love it.
[name_f]Lyubov[/name_f] - love
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - happiness
[name_f]Farah[/name_f] - joy
[name_f]Soleil[/name_f] - sun
[name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] - golden
There’s probably more, but those are the ones I can think of right now.
hmm…i think that “grass” is a lovely, versatile, evocative meaning for abilene, but i just can’t get behind any name with “abby” in it! similarly, i don’t love the sound of “minnie,” but i adore the meaning “of the mind.”
I love [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]! But, I would only use it as a middle. [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] is adorable and so is the meaning! I’d recommend [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] maybe?
Oh my god!! Swoon. Those meanings are wonderful. Solette is adorable (and a good alternative to Sonnet.) I love the constellation connection that Vela has (plus the possible nn Veli is so cute.) The Talia meaning is to-die-for.
I don’t love names with Abby in them either but, Abilene is kinda cute? I think Minnie is cute but immediately think of the mouse.
Yes!! I totally get the trendy faux hawk feeling lol. But, oh my god that meaning is wonderful.
Yeah. I used to like Sophia/Sofia/Sophie/Sofie but, it’s so common. Plus I don’t really like it anymore lol.
For me, these are mostly word names, as I’m not one to pay attention to the meaning of non-word names (with some exception).
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]— love the flower, the name is not for me.
[name_f]Susan[/name_f]— this is an exception to this list being word names, love the “Lily” meaning but not the name, which is a shame because it’s an honor name (luckily, [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is a good substitute as an honor for Susan).
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]— same as [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], plus I sadly just cannot get over how I just hear “Violent” as in my accent they’re very similar sounding
[name_u]August[/name_u]— love a month name, this isn’t for me
[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] — virtue names are lovely but I’m not a fan of the sound of this particular one
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] — same as [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] — love the flower, not the name itself, though I love [name_f]Wildrose[/name_f] and Sunrose as middles!
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] — this is my favorite season so I’ve tried really hard to love this one, but it’s not for me
[name_u]Swan[/name_u] — I love a lot of bird names for meaning, but this one as a name I can’t quite get behind (yet)
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]! It means “voyager, traveler” which I adore but I just don’t like the name. And I figure if I don’t like it any more now than I did 8 years ago when I joined NB, it’s probably just not gonna happen for me lol.
A little different but I love the meaning of [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] (“traveler”) and I’d use it as a middle but I don’t like that it’s a the name of several saints.
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] - I know Berries love this but it’s sooo dated and I just can’t get over that
[name_f]Karen[/name_f]
[name_u]Lux[/name_u]
[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] - the [name_m]Fred[/name_m] part is throwing me off so much
[name_f]Lilian[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is the one of the two that would be more my style. I don’t like [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] at all but it of course has the same meaning. I like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] for other people though!
[name_f]Dulce[/name_f] and [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] (both mean sweet), they’d be the perfect honor for my grandma [name_f]Delia[/name_f] for so many reasons but I just can’t get into it, it’s literally the equivalent of the name [name_f]Sugar[/name_f] or [name_f]Candy[/name_f] for me (which coincidentally is my other grandma’s name, short for Cándida though)
Yes, I can see why you’d nix them. I thought of candy right away lol. Maybe [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] would work? I don’t know what link your looking for but [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] came to mind when I saw the original name!
