what are some names that aren’t popular on nb, but you love and think deserve more attention?
my answer is yelena - it has such a pretty sound, has lots of cute nickname options (lena, enna, elena, elle, ella, etc), and is unique but easy to pronounce!
[name_f]Yelena[/name_f] is lovely! Where I live it’s spelled [name_f]Jelena[/name_f], and while I do love [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Helena[/name_f] more, this name is a gorgeous alternative!
I wish people appreciated [name_m]Tin[/name_m] more, it’s a masculine name in Croatia. I know most people will think of the metal but this name has been really popular for some 15 years and is the name of an important 20th century Croatian poet.
Also, I think [name_f]Doris[/name_f] is really under appreciated. Many berries consider it an old lady name, but where I live I’d say it’s a classic and definitely not unusual on a younger person. It has such a lovely meaning! (But I’m biased because I love all names to do with water and ocean)
[name_u]Percy[/name_u]! Is classic and vintage, so it fits the style that most people want and like. Also I think is really cute for a baby boy still fits an adult perfectly. It gives me the same vibes as [name_m]Felix[/name_m] or [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], both of them really popular here.
I said the same in a similar thread recently, but with all the love [name_f]Alma[/name_f] gets on Nameberry, I feel like other -lma names deserve a little more appreciation. Especially [name_f]Selma[/name_f] and [name_f]Wilma[/name_f], maybe even [name_f]Thelma[/name_f].
+1 for [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] and [name_u]Percy[/name_u] too.
More current/trendy names! I feel like one of the only Berries who adores them. I think @lumosmaxima likes them too. Names like Everly/Everleigh, [name_u]Paxton[/name_u], [name_f]Jacelyn[/name_f], and [name_m]Cayden[/name_m].
Also, interestingly enough, the first time I browsed a name forum (before I discovered NB), someone preferred the spelling [name_f]Hadleigh[/name_f] over [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] and I thought that was a neat twist on the name! Most people on that forum pretty much had an approximation of the [name_u]Berry[/name_u] style.
I really like the name [name_u]Aidan[/name_u]. It’s a beautiful Irish name (well, anglicized spelling, of course) that gets lumped into trendier names. And [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] drives me nuts!
Also for boys [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] (Berries love it for girls though!), [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] (kind of surprising, but no one ever talks about this sweet name).
For girls I’m surprised that Great doesn’t get talked about much. I love [name_f]Greta[/name_f] nn [name_f]Gerty[/name_f]! Also nobody seems to like [name_f]Mia[/name_f] that much.
“Bland” or “filler” names: [name_m]John[/name_m], Marie/Mary, [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], etc.
They certainly have their audience but it makes me sad when I see users write them off as boring or awful. Not everyone favors fanciful Nameberry combos and choosing one of these names doesn’t make someone lazy (an accusation I’ve seen tossed around here before).
