Names you would use that don’t fit your ‘style’

I have a few of these types of names that aren’t really my style but I just can’t help but like them.

The 2 names I always come back to, even though they don’t ‘fit’ with my name style is:

[name_f]Hannah[/name_f] which is slightly dated, way too popular and too familiar compared with the rest of my favorites. But I just love it’s soft sound and (weird association) but it reminds me of warm wood, that’s been sitting in the sun and has gotten soft and sweet smelling.

[name_u]Afton[/name_u] which is just way too unisex sounding. Where as I usually prefer soft and lilting or sweet feminine sounding names, there’s something about [name_u]Afton[/name_u] with its open sound that I just find appealing.

What names are on your list that don’t fit your style?

[name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] comes to mind! I’m not usually a fan of names of that style, but I’m quite fond of this one. That said, I might prefer it on a boy…

Also, [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. I’m not personally a fan of many obvious “nickname names,” but I dislike the name [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and feel that [name_f]Liv[/name_f] stands well enough on its own to be solo.

[name_u]Hadley[/name_u] and [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] aren’t really the sorts of names I usually like i.e. unisex surname names but I love these two - [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] for a girl and [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] for either gender, although preferably for a boy.

I think these two appeal to me because they feel literary on account of the novel, The [name_u]Paris[/name_u] Wife, about [name_m]Ernest[/name_m] Hemingway’s first wife, [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], and 16th century [name_f]English[/name_f] poet/playwright [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u].

I absolutely adore [name_u]Pascale[/name_u] and [name_u]Greer[/name_u] for girls. Not my typical vintage, stuffy style, but so gosh darn sweet. I really love them!!

i have a more classic, vintage style (with some nicknames thrown in there), but some names i love that don’t fit in that category are antigone, veronica, august, blair, olivia, + paloma.

[name_f]My[/name_f] style is kind of all over the place and categories have become rather ambiguous (for instance, [name_f]Alice[/name_f] used to be old-fashioned but now is kind of trendy, too). I tend to like nature, grandma, earthy types…

Two that definitely fit this topic are [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Cayleigh[/name_f].

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is my husband’s first choice for a girl. I really, really love it and would be fine using it. It just doesn’t fit with other ones that I like. If I had two daughters, I would be confused to find a sister name for it.

[name_f]Cayleigh[/name_f] breaks rules. I don’t like -leigh endings. It is a legitimate spelling but looks like a smoosh name, trendy like the [name_u]Brinleigh[/name_u], [name_f]Caydence[/name_f], etc names. Still, I love this name and wouldn’t mind using it.

I don’t feel like [name_u]Scout[/name_u] or [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] perfectly fit my style. [name_f]My[/name_f] other girls aren’t frilly but they are distinctly feminine to me, whereas [name_u]Scout[/name_u] and [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] have a different vibe. Also [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_u]Kerrigan[/name_u] for the same reasons. And maybe some of the word names I love- [name_u]Hero[/name_u], [name_u]Glow[/name_u], [name_u]Kestrel[/name_u] and [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]

Id say [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] is classic but I’d put it in the same category as [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]. They’ve almost always charted, however they’ve had times where they have fallen or almost fallen off the list, and then they’ve had a decade or two where they’ve topped the list so I’ve feel like they’ve become associated with that time and can feel slightly dated, but because they are classic they will be continued to be used. If that makes sense.

I love [name_f]Mackenna[/name_f] and Mackintosh (Tosh) which are definitely not my style as I only like (some) surnames for males and almost none for females.

[name_f]Georgette[/name_f], [name_f]Nanette[/name_f], and [name_f]Jeannette[/name_f] I don’t think of as being my style, but I am fond of them. They remind me of Regency romance novels.

And I like [name_f]Eunice[/name_f], even though I think it is horribly ugly, so go figure.

My usual style is mythology-inspired, fairy-tale-esque… the sort of names you’d expect a character in a fantasy novel to have. Names I love that don’t suit this include:

Haven
Lily
Winslet
Harlow
Storm
Lilac
Sylvie
Rose
Isabella
Willa

They’re kind of trendy and too popular for my usual taste, some are even Crunchy Instagram Mom. But I love them anyway

This! Liv Tyler (also not an Olivia) has done a lot for my love for this name all on its own. If it wasn’t tied to Olivia so strongly I’d definitely list it.

I lovveeee [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]! But it jut feels more clunky, retro, spunky than all the rest of my faves, which are more classic/whimsy/cottage core

[name_u]Billie[/name_u] & [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]

I’m not usually into unisex names preferring overtly feminine choices or overtly masculine choices. I can see the appeal and there are some gorgeous unisex names but I wouldn’t use them. However I love [name_u]Billie[/name_u] & [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] for girls.

[name_u]Billie[/name_u] is so fun with a jazzy vintage flair she feels upbeat and I think such a cool girl name. [name_f]My[/name_f] brother is [name_u]William[/name_u] ‘Billy’ so would be a nice to honour him using [name_u]Billie[/name_u]. I have the combination [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_u]Billie[/name_u] which I think is really homespun and inviting.

[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] is just a cool girl she has this appealing bohemian feel. [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] also feels distinguished I love the association with the poet [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] I think this association adds to the bohemian flair. I think [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] is lovely. I would love to team [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] with something classic and feminine maybe [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

I’d say for me [name_f]Sara[/name_f], [name_f]Iva[/name_f], [name_f]Lara[/name_f], [name_f]Angelina[/name_f], & Gabriella; as I tend to like names that are more uncommon and more tied to my culture and aren’t used as much in the USA, but I really love these names as well so I wouldn’t mind using them in a heartbeat

Most of my list is pretty short names (Iris, [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], Lucia) to balance out my husband’s long, consonant-heavy surname, but I also love [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and would be perfectly happy to use it.
