Hey all,
What names have you always loved? Not which ones have been on your list a long time- I mean the ones you’ve liked since you were a kid, before you were really into names.
For me, it would be [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], and [name_m]Monty[/name_m].
What about you? Which names have you loved forever and ever?
[name_m]Lucian[/name_m] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] were my absolute favorites in high school. Still love them, but my husband hates [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is getting too popular for me.
I have known since I was 10 that I would have a daughter named [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] someday. I’ve also really like [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] and [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], but I don’t actually see myself using those. I really liked [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Bella[/name_f] for the longest time, but (of course) I named my two gerbils those names and now they’re pretty unusable for me.
As a kid, I fantasized about having a golden retriever puppy named [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. Not a child - a puppy. I would still name a female puppy [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] today since I never got that little dream fulfilled.
As for children, I have always been head over heels for [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. [name_f]Elena[/name_f] was a sound I sort of invented in my brain and was then super excited to find out that it was an established name. I have no idea where [name_m]Henry[/name_m] came from. I don’t remember reading it or hearing it, but it just appeared in my brain and never left. Since I was 15, I couldn’t imagine not having a [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. Thankfully, my husband fell in love with [name_f]Elena[/name_f] the moment I mentioned it, and he has conceded to [name_m]Henry[/name_m] if he gets to name the second son.
I was always in love with names - in fact, I tried to change mine several times as a kid. Childhood favorites included [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], [name_m]David[/name_m], [name_u]Nelly[/name_u], [name_f]Nessa[/name_f], [name_f]Janet[/name_f], [name_u]Joey[/name_u], [name_f]Briar[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (alone and in combination), [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f]/[name_f]Katie[/name_f], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]/[name_f]Gabriella[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_u]River[/name_u] (boy), [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], [name_f]Pamela[/name_f], [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] taste was definitely a lot more mainstream then, with some crusty British outliers thanks to my mother. From my former favorites, I would still use [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f]/[name_f]Katie[/name_f] (as nns for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]), [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_f]Evie[/name_f] (as a nn for [name_f]Eve[/name_f]), and [name_f]Louise[/name_f].
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]. I became obsessed with names after my sister gave me a name book when I was 8. It is literally the only name that has made every single list of mine for the past 15 years.
I guess because I’m only 16 and I consider my oldest favourites to be the ones I liked aged 11-ish, I’ve only been ‘into’ names for a relatively short amount of time. [name_f]My[/name_f] style hasn’t changed a whole lot, but the only two consistent favourites I can think of are [name_m]Alec[/name_m] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. I’m still in love with both of those so drastically.
Others that have been almost permanently on my list for the longest time…
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]
For boys, probably just [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]. And [name_m]Orin[/name_m]/[name_m]Oran[/name_m] - I still like that a lot. Maybe [name_m]Bertram[/name_m] too.
I’ve loved the names [name_u]Austen[/name_u], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] since I was about 10, and I still love them! [name_u]Austen[/name_u] has always been my absolute favourite though, thanks to [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u]. I started to love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] when I read Pride and Prejudice, and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] when I read [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women.
So I have loved those 3 names for roughly 12-13 years; crazy!
The only names I am still fond of that I was head-over-heels for as a child are [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Macy[/name_f].
Seeing as I’m still I school, I haven’t got too many, but I remember liking these names since I was about 7 or 8:
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Pandora[/name_f] (a bit more recent, but now my fave!)
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] (and that’s it for boys :P)
[name_f]MY[/name_f] taste has changed enormously since I was about 11-13 when my favourite names were [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], [name_f]Ebony[/name_f] [name_f]Lola[/name_f] for a girl and [name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and [name_u]River[/name_u] for a boy! I wouldn’t use any of those names now. Since about 16 (I’m 23 now) I have really liked [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. These are all still on my list and match my naming style much more!
Since I was about 6, I’ve loved the name [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. I named my favourite doll [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and I still adore the name! I hate how popular it’s getting, though.
For boys, I can’t even remember a time when I didn’t love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
As a kid my favorites were [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Bonita[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and I was totally mesmerized at the name [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. At one time, I thought that I had originated that name. I had a doll that I named [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] ([name_u]Lou[/name_u]-Sha) my grandmother had given me. I guess my roots had a lot to do with certain names that I really loved. In high school I took [name_m]French[/name_m] over Spanish though. I wanted to explore a different direction because of my love of names. I fell in love with names [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Monique[/name_f], [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. While in this class, we all had [name_m]French[/name_m] names that we had to call each other and everyone called me [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] for my fnn. Looking back, it’s sort of silly, but if I see one of my classmates at the grocery store, we still use those “Frenchies” that we used to go by. It was a whole new world that opened up for me while enhancing my love of names.
For girls, it would be [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. I can’t use [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] but I still love them. I think these names have been on my list for 10+ years.
For boys, [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. I can’t use [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] anymore because I have a cousin with this name but I have loved it for more than 15 years. I actually use to have a whole list of ‘S’ names that I LOVED…[name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Sampson[/name_m], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_u]Seth[/name_u], and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u].
The only name that I have loved since I was a kid (say about age 9), when I wasn’t into names yet, is [name_u]Elliott[/name_u].
We had friends from Belgium over one day, with kids named [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] (not sure on the spelling) and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and while I love [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] is the one name that I would regret if I didn’t use it for a little boy.
I’ve always liked [name_f]Emma[/name_f] & [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] for girls and [name_m]Colin[/name_m] & [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] for boys. [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] used to be on the top of my list but that’s my brother-in-law’s name so maybe it would have to be a middle name now. I still like all those names, my list has just gotten much longer!
I seriously can’t remember a time when I wasn’t a name-nerd! I think the only name loves from my childhood that are still on my long list are [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f].
