Both choices feel harsh to me. While I like the three different names alone, paired together, they feel like a lot.
I chose Hawking because of the two, it pairs better with [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]. I was getting a little tongue tied saying “[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] and Geddy” together because of similar sounds- I guess the G! But on their own, I prefer Geddy.
Not sure if all of these are namesakes, but perhaps a variation of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] would soften up the pairs, if you’re trying to fit the same style of your other son!
Best wishes!
Thanks for the input. I don’t really care much about flow or whether they seem to fit as a sibset–we actually call [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Indy[/name_f] quite often–so it would often be [name_f]Indy[/name_f] and Geddy. I’m mostly interested in people’s first impression of the first names individually as to which they prefer (I probably should have left the middle name out of the poll, now that I think about it!)
I think I would prefer just [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] to Hawking. Or [name_m]King[/name_m] even. I find it a little hard to say as a whole.
Geddy intrigues me but unfortunately I think of Getty oil and the Getty family. Not everyone will have that association though, so don’t let that sway you. It has a nicer sound.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!
[name_m]How[/name_m] are you pronouncing Geddy?
Hawking reminds me of [name_m]Stephen[/name_m]. Sweet but teasing? Since [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] was disabled but I doubt kids will have heard of him.
Geddy also makes me think of the Getty family, but I prefer it to Hawking.
A sincere thank you! for all the voting and responses
I’m really getting a kick out of all of them. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like when my 22-year-old co-worker didn’t know what the “Amityville Horror” was. So I’m learning that DH’s (he’s almost 45 so this is understandable) greatest GP name that he wants so badly to use if we have a boy is an unknown namesake reference to many NB users. Which is valuable information.
Geddy [name_u]Lee[/name_u] is the bassist/lead singer of [name_m]Rush[/name_m]. [name_m]Rush[/name_m] is a band that was most popular in the late 70’s and 80’s, their last tour was in 2015 after 40 years as a band.(Geddy is actually a nickname for [name_u]Gary[/name_u] Geddy [name_u]Lee[/name_u]'s case)
I’m not quite sure how to explain the pronunciation…it is pronounced exactly like it looks? Gehddee?
Hawking is definitely as in [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] Hawking.
Again, thank you for the responses!
Neither.
Both feel very… Harsh… To me.
Especially as an adult, I would not like to introduce myself to someone new under either of those names.
Hawking is super cool!
I’d prefer either one as a middle name, not a first name. Might actually prefer [name_m]Rush[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] to Geddy [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]… Geddy does remind me of the Scottish name/nickname [name_m]Gibbie[/name_m] which I think is cute on a boy! But Geddy makes me think Geddy up, cowboy. Hawking looks cool & I like the honorific, but unfortunately I just see the verb…hawking wares on a street corner, or hawking up a loogie. Hawke is preferable but again I think I like them in middle spots best.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] nn [name_f]Indy[/name_f]
I think Hawking is pretty cool. [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] makes an awesome nickname and [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] Hawking as a namesake is pretty awesome one to have.
Geddy I don’t really love though, I think it would be better as a nickname.
I quite like Hawking and the nickname [name_m]Hawk[/name_m]. I’m not familiar with the namesake behind Geddy and I don’t like the sound as much as Hawking.
Thank you for the continued voting and opinions! It’s good to year the various impressions. We’re set in our unusual first name and more common “fallback” middle name style. We definitely wouldn’t use [name_m]Rush[/name_m]…too much negative association with [name_m]Rush[/name_m] Limbaugh for me!
