Sorry, english is not my first language, and my story won’t be written in it, but the plot takes place in the generic small town in [name_f]Canada[/name_f]. Genre is YA, magic realism, dark fantasy.
So, there is my character, your average trainwreck difficult girl, purple hair, beer and cigarettes, but like she’s 4’11’’, has chubby cheeks and looks like she’s 12 (she is actually 17). Not a main character, but part of the protagonist’s crew. She is a little melancholic, very sarcastic, smart and brave when it’s necessary. Also swears a lot and loves kids. Basically a jerk with a heart of gold.
Aaand she once killed a man.
I think portrait is done.
So! I need a help with naming her. I originally decided to go with [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] ([name_f]Nell[/name_f] for nickname) but now it’s just does not fit quite right… Maybe too feminine, maybe too french.
Her last name is [name_m]Tod[/name_m], so i would prefer to avoid names heavily associated with animals or birds (like [name_f]Catie[/name_f], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_u]Dove[/name_u]).
Other characters names are [name_m]Allen[/name_m], [name_f]Melody[/name_f] and [name_m]Richard[/name_m].
Thank you very much!
I think it should be written in English for everyone else so they could read it and maybe you could name your character [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] or [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tori[/name_f] or [name_f]Vicky[/name_f].
Thank you =)
Eh, I would like to know how to actually wright fiction in english and don’t sound like a 2th grader, but alas
You could take some classes if that helps.
@star_girl: No offence, but that opinion sounds soooo American x)
That character sounds quite interesting in your setting.
If you find [name_f]Daniella[/name_f] too french why not go with a plainer version like [name_f]Daniela[/name_f]?
I personally like star_girl’s suggestion. [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] could fit well – especially with [name_f]Tori[/name_f] as a nick.
Other names that might fit:
[name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] nn [name_m]Mac[/name_m] or [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bea[/name_f] or [name_f]Trixy[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] nn [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sam[/name_u]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mona[/name_f] or [name_u]Mo[/name_u]
[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] nn [name_u]Steph[/name_u] or [name_u]Stevie[/name_u]
I kind of like the idea of a longer birth name and a spunky nickname ^^
@lilyart: well, I m an American after all, and @lilysue, you could also do [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] nn [name_u]Dani[/name_u] if that works for you, or [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] nn [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] or even [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f]/[name_f]Liz[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or [name_f]Beth[/name_f] if that works or you could combine names like [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] if that works for you.
I like the suggestions of [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] ([name_u]Sam[/name_u]) and [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] ([name_u]Mo[/name_u]).
Others:
[name_u]Whitney[/name_u] ([name_u]Whit[/name_u])
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ([name_m]Joe[/name_m])
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ([name_u]Charlie[/name_u])
[name_f]Danika[/name_f] ([name_u]Dani[/name_u])
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] ([name_f]Jill[/name_f])
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is often shortened to [name_u]Josie[/name_u], and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] could be [name_u]Sam[/name_u] or [name_u]Sammy[/name_u], whereas [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] would be [name_m]Joe[/name_m] or [name_u]Joey[/name_u]. [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] is more apt to stay [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], and [name_f]Danica[/name_f] could probably just be [name_f]Danica[/name_f], whereas [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] can be shortened to [name_u]Dani[/name_u].
Ahh, thank everyone very much! Sorry for the late answer, was really busy
I think i would probably go with [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], it goes surprisingly good with Tod last name and forest theme (a lot of adventures are in the woods, and [name_f]Melody[/name_f] (main character) meets [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] while wandering in forest), but i would also think about [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Stevie[/name_u] is just awesome idea).
I also really like the idea of [name_u]Whit[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_u]Whitney[/name_u], would totally use it somewhere else!
I like [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] as well and you could always nn her [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] if you think that would be a good nn for her. I think it would.
