Hello! We have two boys [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], and are now pregnant with a girl. I was leaning towards [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] (not common where I live, despite the trends), but I I’m not sure I like its meaning…pledged to God. We’re not particularly religious, and I don’t think my husband will go for this.
Our daughter will be given a family name as a middle name: [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] most likely.
My husband and I, and our last name [name_m]Allen[/name_m], all have two syllables.
What suggestions do you have that go with [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_u]Dylan[/name_u]?
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] goes really well with [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_u]Dylan[/name_u]! I think [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] is a beautiful combo:)
Congrats on your baby girl! I personally love [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] but can see how the meaning doesn’t fit. Some other suggestions:
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (such a cute sibset with your sons’ names!)
[name_f]Sara[/name_f]
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_u]Skye[/name_u]
I think most (if not all) of these work with at least one of your two middle name options as well. Good luck and I hoped this helped!
Kathrynk2312, thanks for your ideas! You seem to have an insight into my family…my name is [name_f]Sara[/name_f], my niece is [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], and if [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] weren’t so common (way more Olivias here, than Isabels), we would have gone with that. [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] is my mother-in-law’s name, so [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a little too close. We also have a close cousin, named [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. Ha, you are good with names!
Personally, I wouldn’t be worried about the religious meaning of [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and sister name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are amongst the most popular names in the USA right now, so given the proportion of the population that is religious, a good lot of the girls named [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabel/name_f would not be from [name_m]Christian[/name_m] families. I definitely think [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] is usable if you aren’t religious.
You seem to like simple and straightforward names that are feminine without being too froufrou, so here are some suggestions:
These are great suggestions, thank you. I do like straight forward and simple! My husband has vetoed most of your list though…[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] ([name_f]Elsie[/name_f]), [name_f]Maya[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] have all be vetoed-guess he’s kind of picky. [name_f]Amy[/name_f] is is my [name_m]SIL[/name_m].
There are plenty of other names that are similar to [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], if that’s something you’d be interested in! If you like the “Iso-” part, there’s Isora and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]. If you like the “-bel” part, there’s [name_f]Anabel[/name_f], [name_f]Arabel[/name_f], [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f], and [name_f]Clarabel[/name_f] (among others).
I particularly like [name_f]Anabel[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]!
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] is very pretty. Maybe you could find a famous [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] to connect the name to so the literal meaning is less important.
Have you considered other [name_u]Isa[/name_u]- and -bella names? [name_f]Bella[/name_f]/[name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f], [name_f]Isannah[/name_f], [name_f]Isaura[/name_f], [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]…
Unfortunately, [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] is not a first name choice. We love it as a middle name, but not so much as a first name. I love [name_f]Iris[/name_f], but it doesn’t really go with our last name (too many initial vowel sounds). Same problem with [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. I’m kind of a big [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls fan, and my husband will never let me go with [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]. I like your list, the names just don’t fit perfectly.
Great list! I like a lot of these names ([name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], but SO has turned them down already). [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] are out, due to close friends/family members already having them. [name_f]Nina[/name_f] might work!
[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I don’t think that [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] goes with [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_u]Dylan[/name_u]. It seems more conservative European, more of a Latin name. [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] feel more all-American and zesty. They almost feel a bit cowboy-ish.
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_f]Cassia[/name_f]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
