Backstory: Yesterday some very good friends of mine got married. They got everyone who helped with organising or preparations a small gift. I was given a ‘Name A [name_f]Star[/name_f]’ gift because they know about my love of names.
SO… What do I name my star?!
So far I’ve thought about naming it:
Ranunculus - one of the flowers at the wedding which is sort of an in joke, but also, it’s not really a name.
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] - after my mum who died when I was 14. But I suspect there are lots of stars named [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] and I don’t really want to put a lot of numbers after it.
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] - It’s a name I love and would consider on a child, but it’s fairly low down the list.
Something from the [name_u]Terry[/name_u] Pratchett books.
[name_m]General[/name_m] Info:
[name_f]Bride[/name_f] and Groom were [name_u]Clare[/name_u] and [name_m]Paul[/name_m] (eh… not so keen on naming a star after either/both)
Their wedding was Viking/Nerd themed (weird combination, but it worked) hence considering a [name_u]Terry[/name_u] Pratchett name.
One of their hymns was Be Thou My Vision, which is one of my favourite hymns and that could be sweet. But I am very much not a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] so I’m not sure I’d want something so [name_m]Christian[/name_m] as my star name.
Thoughts and suggestions welcome! What would you name a star if you could?
I really like the idea of [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] - it’s a lovely name
Some other ideas:
[name_f]Nava[/name_f] (means pleasant like [name_f]Naomi[/name_f])
[name_f]Aisling[/name_f] (means dream or vision - like a reference to the hymn)
[name_f]Noemi[/name_f] (variant of [name_f]Naomi[/name_f])
I like [name_f]Nava[/name_f] and [name_f]Endellion[/name_f]! ([name_f]Endellion[/name_f] is super cool!)
I’ve just though of some of my favourite book characters - one of whom is called Maerad (hence my name here) but her ‘magical’ name is Elednor meaning [name_m]Fire[/name_m] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. And I’m tempted by Elednor…
I think [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] would make a great star name, plus if you have a [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] one day, you can say she shares her name with a star you actually named. But naming a star after your mum would be a wonderful way to honour her, and [name_f]Nava[/name_f] sounds great! And Elednor sounds super cool. I’ve been no help, but this is fun!
I’d probably name a star an anagram of two of my fictional kids’ names, so let’s say Zaillva (Zayl-vuh).
