I know everyone does things differently, but we named our first as soon as his gender was confirmed. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband got his pick, with my father’s name as his middle name. It was so simple and we never considered calling him anything else once decided. I assumed I’d feel the same way with this baby.
As my husband got preference on our firsts name and then the middle was a family name on my side, we agreed I’d get a name I preferred with [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] as a middle name after the man who raised my husband. I had decided on [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] after a ton of consideration. Now that we’ve been referring to this baby as [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] I keep having this anxiety feeling that what if when he’s born, he doesn’t feel like a [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]?
I don’t know, I can’t think of another name I would prefer, we did like [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] too but our surname starts with S so I didn’t love how they sounded together. I like [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] too but [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] & [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] feel too similar and my husband doesn’t really like [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] so I don’t want to insist on a name he doesn’t like even though he’d be ultimately fine with it. He’ll be born in [name_f]February[/name_f] so I guess I have plenty of time consider, but that’s also not great with my anxiety & indecisiveness.
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] just isn’t a name I hear often as an American in the PNW and I know not everyone in our circles like it so I think that’s part of my hesitation even though I know it’s a perfectly fine name. Our first, [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], was largely liked by everyone other than one person (who rarely is nice about anything anyway) stating they thought it was “too grandpa.” So it was easier to feel confident I guess. It was also easier when it was my husband’s pick, I think because I didn’t feel as personally responsible for giving my child a great name.

I like the names ArthuR and Hug0 together, but you certainly have time to consider other names. I don’t think it is unusual to second guess your decision, especially since you made it so early.
In my opinion, some other names for you to consider / discuss with your husband and mull over are:
Arthur and……
Henry Daniel
Thomas Daniel
George Daniel
Peter Daniel
Edwin, Edward or Edmund Daniel
Leland Daniel
Robert Daniel
Walter Daniel
Simon Daniel
Louis Daniel
Charles Daniel
Jasper Daniel
Sebastian Daniel
Miles or Myles Daniel
One more thing to mention. Don’t rule out Max or Tobias. You could alway use another form of the name.
Tobiah Daniel
Maxim Daniel
Maximus Daniel
It would probably be a good idea to take a few of your top favorite names to the hospital with you and see which name fits your new little one.

You’ve said what I was thinking as I was reading through - this probably feels like a weightier, more difficult decision because it is yours, so there’s a bit more pressure for it to be right - whereas A’s name might have felt right more simply, because it was already an agreed decision.
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is a gorgeous name - a beautiful meaning, handsome and charming but gentle too. It’s familiar and while less popular where you are, it has that cool -o ending of [name_m]Arlo[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_m]Mateo[/name_m], [name_m]Theo[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m] etc., that oo sound [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], [name_m]Luca[/name_m], [name_m]Luke[/name_m], [name_m]Julian[/name_m], etc., and similar letters to [name_m]Hudson[/name_m], [name_m]Houston[/name_m], [name_m]Huxley[/name_m] and [name_m]Hunter[/name_m]. And it goes beautifully with [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]!
I’d say, keep [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] on your list, at the top for now, but float around a few other options. If nothing stands out, [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is likely the one!

[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] sound fantastic with each other! And [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] is such a brilliant combo.
I’d suggest you keep looking at names in a low pressure way on the tiny chance he doesn’t feel like a [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] once he’s born but I suspect once he arrives and you have a face to put the name to the anxiety will fade away.

I love [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] together! It’s likely that once your family and friends meet him, the name will become so attached to him that they really won’t mind it at all!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] another piece of reassurance that [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is stunning and so perfect with your oldest’s name. It’s natural to feel anxious about choosing the name that your child will likely go by their entire life - it is a huge gift to bestow on a child. But [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is a lovely versatile choice - cute but grows up nicely, and with so much literary style.
You do have time to reconsider and it sounds like you and your husband have great taste, so don’t be afraid to explore more ideas and see if they resonate. But for what it’s worth, [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] would be a great choice.

Definitely don’t feel the pressure to decide right now, you’ve got ages!

I think Hugo Daniel is a smashing name. I have two Hugos in my family, one’s 40 and one’s 7, and it’s a great name for them and their different ages and stages. The only age I don’t think it’s great for is the newborn stage, I think it’s harder to match certain names to a baby and that’s why (and not saying this is what’s happening for you, you don’t mention these feelings), a lot of babies who were going to be called say Georgia or Ingrid suddenly become Elsie or Luna once the baby is out. Hugo, to me, is a handsome, lucky, welcoming name. But it’s a harder name to attach to an infant.
Other names like it (in case you want to take a shortlist to hospital - which is normal!):
Leo
Felix
Charlie
Harrison
Xavier
Robin
Sebastian
Thomas
Lucas
Otis
And as per other post, I love straight Max - know a few kids called Max and two are straight Max and one, Maximilian. I much prefer Max (don’t love the reptilian feel of Maximilian and they never use it anyway).
