Naming band members... and band... of male lead.

I’ve been on a roll lately with this old story of mine, and realized I’ve neglected a very important part of character development- the personal life of my male romantic lead, [name_u]Alex[/name_u]. He plays drums in a band (recently changed from guitar- I think I’ll still leave him with guitar skills though) and his band members are his best friends. The three of them were all delinquents in high school, formed band a couple years after graduation.

Genre of [name_u]Story[/name_u]: [name_u]Drama[/name_u]

Time Period/Location: Modern day [name_m]Vermont[/name_m]

Brief Plot: Woman ([name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]) has child with emotionally abusive husband ([name_m]Ben[/name_m]), gets divorced, and tries to reclaim her life and be a good mother. Finds love with [name_u]Alex[/name_u], a close friend, one of her employees, and drummer in his band.

Character 1: Guitarist, friend of [name_u]Alex[/name_u] since [name_m]Jr[/name_m] High. Former class clown, now 27 year old who works with the sanitation department. A bit of a womanizer, likes to ‘harmlessly’ flirt with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], big-time prankster, but still has a big-brother mentality towards [name_u]Alex[/name_u] and Character 2. Secretly a very responsible and respectful guy. Often lacks ambition, mostly cares about beer, women, sports, cars, food, and music.

Character 2: Bassist and vocalist, friend of both since High School. 26, mechanic by day. Has tattoos and full beard. Hardworking, diligent, and serious, often gets annoyed by the others goofing around. Perfectionist, sometimes doesn’t accept responsibility for mistakes.

Also, I don’t really have a name for the band. Their music is garage rock with blues/jazz influence. It could also be described as indie rock, with a sound similar to The [name_m]Black[/name_m] [name_m]Keys[/name_m], The Raconteurs, or The Gossip (if the Gossip had a male lead singer).

for the first character, how about [name_m]Jason[/name_m] nn [name_m]Jase[/name_m] and the second character [name_m]Marcus[/name_m]? For the band, what about Renaissance Fevers? Or Mainstream 29?

I did some research on [name_m]Vermont[/name_m]. If they were women it would have been easier to come up with a name. [name_m]Vermont[/name_m] is famous for maple syrup and dairy.

I missed the part about the guy having a full beard. At 26? Can’t picture it. A goatee, yes. I pictured this guy being quite handsome, since he must be the lead singer.

I know a guy named [name_u]Alex[/name_u] that goes by [name_u]Lex[/name_u] when he is with his band. It sounds cooler.
[name_u]Alex[/name_u] is kind of boring.

I have had enough practice in naming bands and inventing stage names: [name_u]Kai[/name_u], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] (it is simple but also has a lot of cool associations), [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] “[name_m]Ned[/name_m]”, [name_m]Maxim[/name_m] “[name_u]Max[/name_u]”/“Maximum”, [name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m] “[name_m]Enzo[/name_m]”, [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] “[name_u]Vinnie[/name_u]”, [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_m]Ted[/name_m]”/"[name_m]Ned[/name_m]".
Character 2: something serious with an indie nickname needed. [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] “[name_m]Ed[/name_m]”/"[name_u]Freddie[/name_u]"(he can always be a fun of the [name_f]Queen[/name_f] ;)), [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] “[name_m]Bastian[/name_m]”, [name_u]Lionel[/name_u], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_m]Nestor[/name_m], [name_u]Stanley[/name_u].
Also, I think Character 2 can be a junior(I feel like it’s common among rockers:)) so have a different nickname from his father.
P.S. As for band name, you should definitely search some hipster books for inspiration or names of songs by cool, legendary bands. A lot of musicians do so, believe me. :slight_smile: Also, are you going to publish? I feel like your book is something I would like to read.
