My husband and I have one little girl and are pregnant with our 2nd! It took us up until the hour before we walked out of the hospital to finally decided DD1’s name. She got the only 2 names we liked and here we are all over again!
DD1 is [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] wasn’t as popular when she was born and now that she is in preschool, there is another [name_f]Ella[/name_f], an [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], and an [name_f]Elliana[/name_f] in class. I don’t want our next to be in the top 25, maybe even 50.
Our main trouble is our last name- [name_u]Ray[/name_u]. Cutie names (esp. ending in “-ie”) sound hillbilly to me. ([name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_u]Ray[/name_u], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_u]Ray[/name_u], etc).
SO here we are- stuck. We both like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] but we run into the popularity game again. DH would want to call her “[name_f]Mia[/name_f]” and then all I can think of is the [name_f]Doe[/name_f] a Deer song- “[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_u]Ray[/name_u] I call myself…”:D.
One name we both love and keep coming back to is [name_f]Merryn[/name_f] (spelling is another story). My holdup is that [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is so popular and [name_f]Merryn[/name_f] is far from an average name. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is a family name but I don’t love it so I stumbled on it while looking for alternatives. I have loved [name_f]Adalie[/name_f] ([name_f]Ada[/name_f]-lee) from the second I found out I was pregnant- [name_f]Addie[/name_f] being a nickname if it happens that way.
HELP! [name_f]Do[/name_f] we stick with average names or go outside the box? [name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about the name [name_f]Merryn[/name_f]? Or Marryn [name_f]Adalie[/name_f] so we have Average [name_f]Addie[/name_f] to fall back on if we get to that point? I was really hoping at our anatomy scan we would just see a “[name_m]Hi[/name_m], my name is…” sticker on her, but no luck.
I love [name_f]Merryn[/name_f]. I love it enough to put it on my short list of favorites. While it’s not a common name it has a very simple sound. Thus while uncommon it’s not weird at all. It sounds great with [name_f]Ella[/name_f] also. I would stick with it.
Is [name_f]Merryn[/name_f] pronounced like [name_f]Erin[/name_f] with an M? I like it.
I never would have expected such a nice last name to be so hard to pair names with! For that reason I stuck with mostly 3 and 4 syllable names without any ‘elle’ sounds for this list:
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_u]Ray[/name_u]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_u]Ray[/name_u]
[name_f]Noami[/name_f] [name_u]Ray[/name_u]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Ray[/name_u] (I like this a lot!) [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] sound like perfect sisters!
I like [name_f]Merryn[/name_f]. I also like just [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Ray[/name_u] doesn’t sound hillbilly to me all, more like a classy jazz singer or old hollywood actress. And, [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] are gorgeous together!
