yeah, me again.
I’ve been plotting and doodling on my characters for a while now and there is this one name that doesn’t quiet fit.
Unfortunately, it’s the name of a major character and also the antagonist for the first part of my novel.
His current name is [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] Rockrose, with his middle being his father’s name and the surname being his mother’s legacy. His mother [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] “[name_f]Beth[/name_f]” [name_f]Cheryl[/name_f] Rockrose is the leader of a famous tech company and a visionary. His fahter’s name can be changed, I’m not too fond of it. His father was a spy and now works as the head of the intelligence service. In the underground his father is also known as [name_f]Shadow[/name_f] due to his former profession.
“[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]” himself has lightbrown, longish hair and strikingly bright eyes. He has the same special ability as my protagonist and a soldier through and through. He is loyal to the bones if he believes in something and extremely stubborn in persuing his goals. He is this serious nearly grumpy type of guy that does not joke (well maybe a snarky comment here and there).
Oh, and he kills one of his comrades the moment he is introduced.
For the setting and style of names that fit: It’s a futuristic setting with loads of dangers outside the cities (meaning: It may or may not have happened that some were eaten alive.). I prefer shorter names (or at least a good nickname option) with one or two syllables as the environment causes a lot of shouting. There is no such a thing as “too out there” in my world

I love this question, mainly because your premise sounds really cool and I love that you’re considering offbeat nature names. Along that same vein here are some options I have off the top of my head:

[name_m]Just[/name_m] going by his appearance, I think he sounds like a [name_u]River[/name_u], but after hearing his personality and mannerisms, I’m not so sure that fits.

I would think [name_m]Judas[/name_m] could work since it makes everyone that’s [name_m]Christian[/name_m] think of the traitorous [name_m]Judas[/name_m] that betrayed [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] to the Romans. I also have an antagonist name [name_m]Victor[/name_m] in my novels about my superhero StarGirl and that name could work for you.

@star_girl: My character is the exact opposite of a traitor and I don’t want a Christian association with him which is why that name is a fail for me, sorry >< Also, I already have a char named Victoria. But thanks for putting in the time for an answer >_<
I’m still indecisive. So if anybody has another suggestion for my char or something I could change about that middle, your suggestions are very much appreciated
@lilyart: you could always use the name [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] nn [name_m]Dex[/name_m] if you feel that the name [name_m]Judas[/name_m] is to [name_m]Christian[/name_m] for you and I think [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] would be a good villain name in my opinion.
Alright, on second thought I think I may have come up with a small but perhaps better fitting list than before.
[name_m]Hale[/name_m] (means “ingenious” which I thought he might be since his parents seem to be.)
Torrent (meaning swift and strong, also [name_m]Tor[/name_m] is an awesome nn!)
Mather (“strong army”, hinting at his antagonistic nature)
[name_m]Torin[/name_m] (meaning “chief” and it would also get you [name_m]Tor[/name_m] for a nn.)
I love your suggestion of [name_u]Shade[/name_u], since his dad’s code name/nickname was/is [name_f]Shadow[/name_f]
[name_u]Blake[/name_u] (meaning both fair and pale, and dark. I thought this one might be appropriate since it sounds like he might be more of an anti-hero than an outright villain)
[name_m]Rowe[/name_m] (as in a roe deer, I just liked the sound!)
And finally I thought Brazen might be cool! And [name_u]Zen[/name_u] might be a cool nickname.
