We will be adding to our family soon. We have a tradition of selecting a name for our children at dinner the night we find out the gender, so I have to have a list for both genders early on. We have used our favorite girl and boy names and we are having trouble coming up with names that we love (especially for girls). I like our names to have an “o” in them to match the vowels in our last name. So you know our style, here are a few names that we like, but don’t love…
On your girl list: I love [name]Colette[/name], but it is too close to my son’s name ([name]Colt[/name]). I think I will add [name]Lorelei[/name] to our list. I am thinking my husband will probably not go for it, but I think it could grow on me!
On your boy list: I like [name]Joel[/name], but have a close friend with that name. [name]Ford[/name] is appealing, but it doesn’t go with our last name. [name]Oliver[/name] stands out to me, but I don’t think my husband will think it is “manly” enough.
Thanks! I think my favorites on your list are [name]Avalon[/name] and [name]Jolie[/name]. I have a love/hate feeling about [name]Sloane[/name]…and I don’t know which side will win yet! I like the style of [name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name], but my husband already crossed them off the list…
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Gwendolyn[/name], but I seriously dislike “[name]Gwen[/name]” so I think it is out. From that same old world Welsh influence, I am thinking maybe “[name]Bronwen[/name]”??? I think [name]Penelope[/name] is appealing, but not quite right for us.
I have always liked [name]Carson[/name], but I worry that it is too common compared to my other kids’ names.

I have a [name]Rowen[/name] [name]LeeAnn[/name] and a [name]Colton[/name] [name]Scott[/name]. The middle names are honorary and [name]Colton[/name] always goes by “[name]Colt[/name]”…I don’t like the popularity of [name]Colton[/name], but wanted to give him options for his adult life. (Plus I loved [name]Scott[/name] as the middle name and [name]Colt[/name] [name]Scott[/name] is too choppy for me. The “on” breaks it up a little.)
I feel like my style for girl names in a bit old worldish and whimsical, but not super feminine. I love [name]Aurora[/name] - “[name]Rory[/name]” - but my husband despises that name! [name]Calloway[/name] is interesting; I have never heard it before. Maybe a few more name suggestions along these lines? I love [name]Delaney[/name], but I am stuck on having an “o” in my kids’ names. The more I read [name]Persephone[/name], the more I like it. Hm.
For boys, we tend to like cowboyish, country, super masculine names…which is hard to match our girl name style. We like [name]Dillon[/name], but it is way too popular for our use - unfortunate, because I feel like it matches the other two names well. Maybe something with the same Welsh sounding vibe, but a more American country spelling or twist? I think your suggestion of [name]Brock[/name] fits this really well, but it doesn’t go with our last name at all. I like how [name]Roscoe[/name] goes with [name]Colt[/name], but not with [name]Rowen[/name]. [name]Everett[/name] is cute, but no “o”…so maybe [name]Elliot[/name]? But that doesn’t seem masculine enough next to [name]Colt[/name]…
From your girl list, I like [name]Rowen[/name]! I think [name]Ashton[/name] & [name]Emerson[/name] would be gorgeous for a boy.
I like [name]Forrest[/name] & [name]Remington[/name]!

[name]Just[/name] putting in my two cents: I adore the name [name]Rowan[/name]. It can go both genders and is just overall really original while not being too out there and makes me think of someone who gets things done when they put their mind to it.
I know you said you liked [name]Bronwen[/name]. I know two [name]Bronwyn[/name]'s and they are very different people, but both strong, very likable women. Other names that might work:
Girl: [name]Isolde[/name], [name]Rhiannon[/name], [name]Briony[/name], Eron,
Boy: Caddoc, [name]Floyd[/name], Wescott, [name]Pollock[/name]
I agree with [name]Bronwen[/name], love that name. My own is almost 9 and sweet, artistic, and very much into reading and learning (going by your screen name).
Sorry for any repeats as I’ve only skimmed the responses. I love [name]Eliot[/name] and think it fits really well with your other kids. Other suggestions that I think work are:
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Arlo[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] (I have one of those too )
[name]Margo[/name]/
[name]Flora[/name]
[name]Rocco[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
