Summary

What are some names that you loved as a child that you would never use now?

  • [name_f]Helen[/name_f] - I loved this name until one day someone (either my brother or his friend, don’t remember) told me that [name_f]Helen[/name_f] sounded like hell-in, or as the kid said, in-hell. I stopped being obsessed with the name soon after. However, that hasn’t stopped me from putting [name_f]Helena[/name_f] on my list.
  • Cameron/Courtney - I also loved these names for some reason. I loved them so much, 10-year-old me went to great lengths to steal a parent’s device and look up the meanings. I was shocked at why a name could even dare to mean something like that. Thankfully all the people I know with these names are great people.
  • [name_f]Karen[/name_f] - As a child I adored the name [name_f]Karen[/name_f]. I remember getting a stuffed bird one year, and 8-year-old me was like “Karen is a lovely name!! Let us name this bird Karen!” Thankfully I could enjoy the name for a few years before all that dumb stuff started. I also remember being horrified the first time someone told me about the negative connotation. I was shocked that such a ‘lovely’ name could mean something so stupid.

What are some names that you loved as a child that you would still use?

  • [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - I fell in love with the name [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] for some reason sometime around 1st-2nd grade. It sounded like the most beautiful name to me at the time, and was my favorite for a bit until I discovered [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I would absolutely name a daughter this, in fact, I love the combo [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
  • [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - This name has been my all-time favorite. I’ve calculated, and I’ve loved this name for 7-8 years now. There’s just not a way I can explain how and why I love this name so much. But it’s on every one of my lists, and every story I have has at least one character named this, and when asked my favorite name this is always my default answer.

What are some names that you hated as a child but love now?

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] - I’m sorry to say this, but [name_f]Anna[/name_f] (now fluctuating around #2 on my list, second only to Elizabeth) used to be one of my most hated names. I’m not sure why. Possibly because of people I know or the fact that it was really short. As someone with a 2-syllable name, I want to give my daughter a really long name.
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] - I’m also sorry that this is on here. This one is because of [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] from [name_m]Little[/name_m] House on the [name_u]Prairie[/name_u]. I really just hated the nickname [name_f]Carrie[/name_f]. But now I see that [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a beautiful full name, I’ve added it to my list (currently at #3).

What are some names that you loved as a child that you would never use now?
[name_f]Madyson[/name_f] – Not my style anymore and would not spell it like that either now.
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f] – I remember being in love with this name but it doesn’t fit my vibe anymore, not a bad name just wouldn’t work for me now.
[name_u]Nolan[/name_u] – I was working with kids and a little boy with this name made me love it but again, not my style anymore.
[name_m]Zachary[/name_m] – Same as [name_u]Nolan[/name_u].
[name_u]Hayden[/name_u] – This was my favorite boy name maybe around 15? and now I would never choose that name.

What are some names that you loved as a child that you would still use?
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] – Been in love with this name for as long as I remember and even if it wouldn’t be my first choice right now, I would still be happy with a daughter named [name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] – [name_f]Glad[/name_f] I made lists when I was younger because I forgot I liked that name when I was younger. A beautiful classic that I would gladly use.
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] – Same as above. I fell out of love with this name in my teens but it’s been back on my list for a few years now!
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] – [name_f]My[/name_f] boy names have been quite consistent and this one I would happily use.

What are some names that you hated as a child but love now?
[name_u]Theo[/name_u] – I remember not finding the appeal of this name at all and one day my friend told me she’d see me with a son named [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. It stayed on my mind and when I worked with kids there was a little [name_u]Theo[/name_u], he made me appreciate the name more and now it’s a favorite of mine!
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] – This name is on the same level as [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] and some other unappealing names here so it’s never been a name I liked, in fact I hated it but after coming on here I saw so many people loving this name and it slowly made me hate it less. [name_u]Jo[/name_u] [name_u]Wilson[/name_u] from Grey’s Anatomy also helped in all that lol. I love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] now. Thankfully older names are coming back in style so it could be usable here now if I ever wanted to use it.
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] – Never liked this name because of the pronunciation where I live but as soon as I heard how else it can be pronounced I really started to love it.

Those are all I can remember right now:)

I like the versatility of your childhood faves - [name_f]Helen[/name_f] to [name_u]Courtney[/name_u], [name_f]Karen[/name_f] to [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]!

What are some names that you loved as a child that you would never use now?

  • [name_u]Courtney[/name_u] - I adored this name after watching [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] and the Twelve Dancing Princesses! But it feels a little dated to me now and my style has changed towards more cottagecore / academia.
  • [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] - I definitely do still like this name, it’s beautiful! However, [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] has stolen my love and they’d be too similar for me to use as sister names. (Coincidentally though, also a name from [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] and the Twelve Dancing Princesses)
  • [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] - Inspired by my intense [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] obsession. It’s cool and charming but realistically I think it’s too similar to my own name for me to use
  • [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] - I loved the connection to [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Hepburn, my favourite actress. Then I met an [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and it suits her so so well that I can’t really picture using it on a child of my own.
  • [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] - I love the sibilance of this name, but similarly to [name_u]Courtney[/name_u] my tastes have shifted.

What are some names that you loved as a child that you would still use?

Although my naming style has changed significantly, my forever names are all the same ones I loved as a child! [name_u]Rose[/name_u], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_u]Henry[/name_u], and [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]

What are some names that you hated as a child but love now?

  • [name_f]Judith[/name_f] - It was just an ‘old-lady’ name to me as a child, and my elementary school principal, named [name_f]Judith[/name_f], was very intimidating. Now I love the association to [name_f]Judith[/name_f] as a powerful woman from the Bible. And I think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] on a girl is such a spunky nickname!
  • [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] - Also an ‘old-lady’ name and I didn’t understand how it could have ever been so popular. Honestly I don’t know what really changed my mind, probably a combination of again falling in love with [name_f]Deborah[/name_f], the Biblical female poet and judge, as well as Singin in the [name_u]Rain[/name_u] with [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] [name_u]Reynolds[/name_u]. I still don’t care for [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] as a nickname, but [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_u]Bo[/name_u] would be so fresh and cute.
  • [name_u]Gideon[/name_u] - Oh my dear [name_u]Gideon[/name_u] how could I ever have not liked you! It’s now a top #5 boys name for me, but I used to hate the ‘Gid’ part of the name.

i used to dislike margot and now i have a soft spot for her :heartbeat: and i encountered jago a few years ago, so i wasn’t a child, but i thought it was quite ugly and just couldn’t see the appeal at all. and now jago is near the top of my boys list
