Berries, I am looking for your thoughts on naming a sibling to [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] [name_m]Lex[/name_m] nn [name_m]Cy[/name_m]. With baby #1[name_f][/name_f] at the 20 week anatomy scan we simply knew that his name would be [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]. No such luck with baby #2[name_f][/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
All signs point to a boy, so we’re primarily looking at blue names. If we ended up with a surprise girl, top contenders would be [name_f]Elora[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and [name_f]Margot[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
We speak [name_f]English[/name_f] and Spanish, so the name needs to work/sound similar in both languages. And our last name rhymes with [name_f]Leah[/name_f], so anything with an “eah”/“ia” ending is out.
[name_f][/name_f]
Names on our short list include: [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Alaric[/name_m] nn [name_m]Al[/name_m] (this is my husband’s favorite, but I’m just not sure it’s THE NAME) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Callum[/name_m] nn [name_m]Cal[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Xavier[/name_m] nn [name_m]Xavi[/name_m] (we would probably pronounce it like [name_m]Javier[/name_m] what an [name_f]English[/name_f] “h” sound) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Edmond[/name_m] nn Ed/Eddy
[name_f][/name_f]
Some names I love, but we won’t be using are: [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ignacio[/name_m] (nn traditionally [name_m]Nacho[/name_m] in Mexico, so I can’t convince my hubby) [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Isabella[/name_f] (nn often Chabela in Mexico, so I cannot convince my hubby even though [name_m]Isa[/name_m] is perfectly acceptable variation) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Gideon[/name_m] (the Spanish pronunciation isn’t my favorite soundwise)
[name_f][/name_f]
What are your thoughts about additional names we should consider? [name_m]Or[/name_m] does something off of our shortlist jump out for any particular reason? Thanks in advance!
Of your girls, assuming it doesn’t clash with your Leah last name: I like Elora the best. Alice sounds too similar to Cyrus (and doesn’t seem to match in style), and my second pick, Margot, also doesn’t quite seem to go as well with Cyrus as Elora but def second pick. What about Leonor? That’s one of my fave Spanish names (and gives so many good nicknames) or Maribel (similar to Isabella). Others: Amelie, Bianca or Paloma? Cyrus & Leonor would be my pick!
Of your boys, I like Alaric, Xavier (though one thing I like about the Z sound of English version is the nn Xav “Zave” - but Xavi “Havi” is def cool!) and Edmond (Eddy). I think if you choose Alaric, you’ll have to be ready for “Ricky” as well as “Al”. Others: Sebastian/Bastian, Leo or Rafael?
Good thoughts on [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I’ve wondered if the soft “c” sound is too close. [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] is such a beautiful name! For some reason it reminds me of [name_f]Petra[/name_f] and [name_f]Pilar[/name_f], which I also love!
[name_f][/name_f]
You are 100% right that [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] has a good chance of ending up with the nn “Ricky” and we’re definitely a nickname family! Surprisingly, if this kid did end up being “Ricky” it wouldn’t bother us… despite feeling wildly different than [name_m]Cy[/name_m]. Of your suggestions I love both [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] & [name_m]Rafael[/name_m] nn [name_m]Rafa[/name_m] is the BEST (unfortunately, a few close cousins already have this one!)
[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] nicknamed [name_m]Cy[/name_m] and [name_m]Al[/name_m] would be ADORBS! (Also love [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] for a girl!)
Congratulations! [name_f][/name_f][name_f]My[/name_f] favorites with [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] off your short list are [name_m]Edmond[/name_m] and [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]- [name_m]Cy[/name_m] and [name_m]Ed[/name_m] are so sweet together!
From your girl list, I absolutely love [name_f]Elora[/name_f] with [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] – they’re stunning together! Out of your boy names, [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is by far my favorite! Paired with [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], the vibes are just so powerful and cool.
[name_f][/name_f]
A few other ideas that you might like… [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Matias[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Elian[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Victor[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cedric[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lucian[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Felix[/name_m] “Lucky” [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cassian[/name_m] / [name_m]Cassiel[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Laurence[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] “Rafa” [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Percival[/name_m] / [name_m]Percy[/name_m]
I do like the charm of [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]! And [name_m]Callum[/name_m] is cool too! Both have the distinctive yet familiar feel of [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]
Your feedback on [name_m]Edmond[/name_m] & [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] in a sibset with [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] is much appreciated!
[name_f][/name_f]
I’ve always loved the nn [name_m]Bram[/name_m], but I’m not sure if I could commit to [name_m]Abraham[/name_m]. [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] is a perfect suggestion! Now to see what my SO thinks!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Love[/name_f]: [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Benedict[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], and [name_m]Leander[/name_m]. Thank you for your suggestions!
[name_m]Reading[/name_m] your response has me ready for a little girl just so we can name her Elora!!
[name_f][/name_f]
I love how strong [name_m]Victor[/name_m] is. And I never would have thought of calling [name_m]Felix[/name_m] “Lucky”, but it’s so cute! [name_m]Laurence[/name_m]
[name_m]Pascal[/name_m] nn [name_m]Pax[/name_m] or [name_m]Cal[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- chef’s kiss [name_f][/name_f]- it might be THE ONE! Such a beautiful name! Now to see what his papá thinks!?
[name_m]Aramis[/name_m] isn’t one I would’ve thought of. It does have a sort of gentle masculinity to it that I can see both [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] fitting with.
[name_f][/name_f]
I like how [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] and [name_m]Enoch[/name_m] sound together. And if i didn’t already know a few little Aslans, it would definitely be on our list!
