Naming Twins

I have several novel ideas on the go…so many characters, but for the first time a set of twins.

The twins grew up in a small town along the coast in the state of [name]Maine[/name]. Their father was a rail worker and was away a lot. When the twins were 13, their father was killed in a train derailment. Up until that time, the twins had a great childhood. After the father was killed, the mother began to suffer emotionally…she began to drink, was always late for work. On off days, she’d sleep the day away. The twins had to grow up fast as they would come home from school to a passed out mother, a flithy house. They would take care of their mother…clean her up and make dinner. When the twins were 16 they were spotted by a rep for a modeling agency while in a grocery store with their mother.

Twin #1. In the present, she has fallen on her mother’s bad habits and emotional issues. After losing her twin sister to a drug overdose and having been the one that found her dead, she is a wreck. She works as a waitress in a small cafe everyday to pay the bills, but the nights she finds lonely and that is when her troubles start. She drinks until she blacks out. She had to give up modeling because of being burned in a house fire. Her mother fall sleep with a lite cigarette in her hand. She was able to get her sister out and her mother but was burned badly on her back, and right arm.
This is what I picture her to look like: http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/u377/crissyc76/1.jpg

Twin #2. In the present, she is deceased. Modeling turned her into a huge star, but she could not handle the pressures of it and she died of a drug overdose. She was the mother’s favorite. Before modeling, she was sweet…a little naive. Once she got into modeling, she began to hang out with the wrong crowd.

I have 2 surnames in mind. [name]Price[/name] and St. [name]George[/name]. I can’t decide on which on I like best so I thought I’d use [name]Price[/name] as the mother’s maiden name. I was also thinking about one of the twins using the mother’s maiden name…it sort of gives them their seperate idenities since they were models.

Twin #1: I was thinking [name]Bailey[/name] St. [name]George[/name]. I like [name]Bailey[/name]…it’s symbolic. Baileys is a drink. And St. [name]George[/name]…growing up twin #2 admired her sister, but in the present time, there is nothing [name]Saint[/name] like about the character.

Twin #2: [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Price[/name]. I like [name]Price[/name]…it’s symbolic too. She made a lot of money but paid the ultimate price…her life.

What are your thoughts on the names I picked? What do you think of [name]Bailey[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] as a sibset?

I would also love to hear other suggestions too.

No answers as of yet? Guess I have to step in.

I love the surnames! I guess [name]Juliet[/name] was born St. [name]George[/name] as well and only used [name]Price[/name] for professional reasons? Have you thought of middle names yet?
Concerning the first names: As symbolic as they may be, somehow I have a hard time imagining [name]Bailey[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] as twins’ (or even siblings’) names because of the stylistic difference (one is a Shakespearean classic, the other a occupational / surname name that only caught off in the 80s). Somehow the name [name]Bryony[/name] struck me for the first twin, I have no idea why.

I’m also missing some information regarding the timeline. [name]How[/name] old is [name]Bailey[/name] now? When did [name]Juliet[/name] die? I assume the story takes place in the present?

I really hope the small nudge I gave this thread yields some more results as I’m not the best advisor on which names “work” and which don’t, living in a non-English speaking country.

I don’t usually comment on the writer’s corner threads because I’m not a writer but I do know quite a bit about working in the fashion industry and I just wanted to tell you that if they were models and identical twins they would use the same last name because it would be beneficial in their careers to market themselves as twins. As far as names, what about [name]Brandy[/name] instead of [name]Bailey[/name]? It’s a drink too so it still has that symbolism.
