Naming your kid the surname of a legendary icon....baby Sinatra anyone?

I’ve always been curious about this. I’m not expecting anytime soon. Despite this, I am always coming up with names that I would call “potentials”. Now, I’ve basically thought up the perfect names for my future bed wetters, but occasionally I ponder those ‘what ifs’. So I ask, should a parent grace their kid with an iconic surname, or would it prove to be more disgraceful?

I’m a fan of old hollywood and such, the rat pack and so on, and that’s where this thought originated from. Aside from being a Sinatra fan, I actually find the name rather catchy. But I don’t want people to think my kid to be an idiot wearing that name on their “hello, my name is” tag. And of course, by the time they’re done crying and wailing “why mom” I’ll realize that I’m the one to blame and feel absolutely terrible.

But what do you guys think? Anyone? Is Astaire any better? (Because, yes, I happen to like that one as well)
And oh yeah, no worries. The names that I have chosen for the future aren’t so daring. [name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name].

I once knew a woman on a naming site who named her baby [name]Joplin[/name], after [name]Janis[/name] [name]Joplin[/name]. It probably wouldnt suit everyone, but it fit her baby and their family perfectly.

I know a Sinatra, girl. I didn’t think anything of it. Sure, if [name]Presley[/name] can have wide use, why not Sinatra, or even Astaire?

I think it could be doable. I mean, lots of surnames are used as first names, so why not.
The only issue may be the nickname. But not everyone has a nickname so maybe not.

I don’t see why you can’t? If you admire the person why not?

Astaire is nice!

Sinatra is so damn cool. I really like it, for a male, anyway. Astaire is great too.

I really like the idea of using famous surnames to honour people. [name]Presley[/name], [name]Monroe[/name] and [name]Lennon[/name] are a few of my favourites.

I think it’s great! I know so many [name]Presley[/name]'s and [name]Chesney[/name]'s now. I’ve always wanted to use [name]Chaplain[/name] but was afraid it’d be taken as an army minister instead of from [name]Charlie[/name]. [name]Davis[/name] would be a great one too from the rat pack to use that may slide into society a little better if you’re nervous.

I see nothing wrong with Sinatra. I mean who could ever be cooler than [name]Frankie[/name]?

I’m a big fan of the names [name]Lennon[/name] and [name]Hendrix[/name], so why not Sinatra as well?

[name]Morrison[/name] after [name]Jim[/name] [name]Morrison[/name].

Edited for privacy.

My partner and I are huge Beatles fans. I like the name [name]Lennon[/name] for a boy but have [name]Jude[/name] picked out for first boy and wouldn’t have a [name]Lennon[/name] and a [name]Jude[/name].

I did read on a blog recently a new baby called [name]Lennon[/name], as a brother for Cobain.

A friend of a friend also had a [name]Presley[/name] last week.
