For a little girl now?
Whenever I think of [name]Nancy[/name], I think of serious, middle aged women. Can this name sound cool, girlish and maybe even sexy?
I’m trying hard to like the name but i don’t know.

I actually like [name]Nancy[/name] a lot! [name]Don[/name]'t know why really, but I do.
Not yet for me. I love the [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Drew[/name] association, but [name]Nancy[/name] is too strongly middle aged for me right now. [name]Nanette[/name] however, I would love to see on a young person. For some reason it feels fresher to me right now and [name]Nancy[/name]…give it 20 years and I bet it’ll be different.
I know. I can’t think of any younger (20s or younger) or any counter cultural icons with the name [name]Nancy[/name] (except maybe nancy boys but that’s not a good thing)
Still, the name has strong significance and I’m trying to make myself like it. It’s just really really hard.
I used to really like [name]Nancy[/name], and I think it needs to come back. The revival has already started in the UK, I think there was a fair few [name]Nancy[/name]'s born last year. There were 388 [name]Nancy[/name]'s born in 2010 and it ranked at #143 for girls so it’s pretty popular here.
I think it’s a name that can suit any age, but there isn’t really a nickname for it if that bothers you or not.
While [name]Nancy[/name] really isn’t my style, I can see the appeal. I think it would be an original choice these days, and I doubt you’d have any other [name]Nancy[/name]'s in her class. While I don’t think it’s quite ready for that comeback, I’m rooting for it anyway!
I can see a girl having a hard time with the name with the name [name]Nancy[/name] in the U.S. right now. Most people consider it a 1950’s clunker name. The nick name [name]Nan[/name], automatically means grandma to most. But you never know, people may appreciate it for it’s quirkiness, and since naming trends are cyclical, maybe 1950’s clunkers will be all the rage in 10-15 years!
I love [name]Nancy[/name]! My brother had a good friend in high school named [name]Nancy[/name] (she’s probably about 25 now) so its not hard for me to picture it on a young person.
I love it! I think that it’s so much fresher than dusty flowery grandma names or trendy surnamey names. I love ‘mom’ names- [name]Jean[/name], [name]Joan[/name], [name]Mary[/name] & [name]Nancy[/name].
I agree with this!
Adorable!
I would love to meet a little girl named [name]Nancy[/name]! Quirky and sweet.
[name]Nancy[/name] is OK, but I love [name]Frances[/name] nn [name]Francie[/name] more!
I personally don’t care for [name]Nancy[/name], It’s everything I don’t like in a name sorry. I think of an older/middle aged woman when I hear it.
If you’re looking for a younger image of [name]Nancy[/name] you should look up the [name]Fancy[/name] [name]Nancy[/name] books. My niece is obsessed with them. [name]Fancy[/name] [name]Nancy[/name] has become a bit of an icon for 4-6 year old girls that I know! She is spunky and unique.
I’m also trying to envision the name throughout different ages. Like teens. twenties. thirties and I’m having problems doing that. All i can think of is nancy pelosi and nancy grace. very strong, tough, no nonsense type.
I like it!
If you wanted to use it but wanted to have a more timeless or contemporary name for her to fall back on, you could always put [name]Anne[/name]/[name]Anna[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name]/[name]Annelise[/name] on the birth certificate, and use [name]Nancy[/name] as her nickname. My given name is [name]Anne[/name], and when I discovered that [name]Nancy[/name] was a nickname for [name]Anne[/name] at the age of eight ish, I really really wanted everyone to call me [name]Nancy[/name] (was going through my [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Drew[/name] phase at the time). My family refused, and continued to call me [name]Anne[/name] or [name]Annie[/name]… I do still like it as a nickname for [name]Anne[/name]- brings out the [name]Shakespeare[/name] in both names, I think!
I don’t like it, sorry! [name]One[/name] of my good friends is [name]Nancy[/name] though (she’s 26).
Growing up with the name [name]Nancy[/name] wasn’t fun. Everyone always pictured an older middle aged women. I am now 30 and can appreciate the name a bit more. The [name]Fancy[/name] [name]Nancy[/name] books are changing the conception of the name.I suggest you take a look at one and see what you think. I did have a few friends that nicknamed me [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Drew[/name] and the teasing I got as a kid was pretty mild i.e [name]Fancy[/name] [name]Nancy[/name], [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Reagen[/name]. Overall I think the name is poised to make a comeback…but if you don’t love the name I suggest you use something else and maybe [name]Nancy[/name] as a middle name.
