At the moment I’m still single, with no kids in sight for a while…but, like pretty much everyone else on Nameberry, I proudly call myself a name nerd. I was recently doing some genealogical research on my dad’s side of the family, and came across this name that belonged to one of my great-great-great grandmothers:
[name]Nancy[/name] [name]Caroline[/name].
It struck me as being sweetly old-fashioned and classy while still having a bit of pep. The lady in question was apparently a classy Southern belle, and was well-respected by her friends and family.
I had never considered using the name [name]Nancy[/name] until I discovered this one in my lineage…somehow, its pairing with [name]Caroline[/name] gives it a fresh twist.
What do y’all think? Is [name]Nancy[/name] still destined to stick in limbo for a while yet, or could it have a potential comeback when paired with fitting middle names?
I have been thinking about [name]Nancy[/name] lately…
I call my grandmother [name]Nan[/name] & I thought it could be a way to honor her!
I posted about it a few weeks ago & a lot of [name]Nancy[/name] haters responded. But it got a few compliments as well.
I think that a lot of these somewhat dated ‘mom’ names that boomed in the 60’s & 70’s will be fashionable soon. And the ‘grandma’ names will fall out of favor.
As for [name]Nancy[/name]- I think it’s a little sassy. I think of [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Drew[/name] & [name]Nancy[/name] Sinatra. Super cool.
I think [name]Nancy[/name] is very classy. Probably most people in 2012 will think of it as a name for someone in her 50’s or so, and hate it, but I think in another decade or two [name]Nancy[/name] will be a new [name]Agnes[/name] or [name]Iris[/name] - so you’d be ahead of the curve.
I don’t see why not. [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is a great combination. [name]Nancy[/name] seems just as usable to me as the “old lady names” that have come back in style, or might come back. It’s my cousin’s name, and she is in her 50s. She’s always liked her name. I’d like to meet a little [name]Nancy[/name].
