I posted this in the [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Names forum last night with no responses, but since I’m only really looking for girls names (I seem to be terrible at matching them up!), I decided to repost here
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is the one combo on my list that stands out the most to me, I love how vintage it sounds, and it conjures up images of late 19th century/early 20th century [name_f]England[/name_f], girls running about in pale coloured dresses tinged with lace, long bouncing curls tied back with ribbon, with large, fancy, flowered hats. Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u] style is something else that springs to mind for me.
There are a few other names that give me the same feel, [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], and [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], for example, but I’d like some more outside opinions. My style is definitely more vintage/classic with a twist, so names like that would be great. The only name I’m completely against for a girl is [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] the imagery you describe is lovely but I don’t see [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] as you describe. I see her as a WWII party girl with a wide smile and I feel that [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is very cutesy and insubstantial a bit like being named [name_f]Coco[/name_f].
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is a brilliant name and there are lots of great names that would compliment it.
For example if you like vintage with a touch of whimsy then you have [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f]
For and outdoors girl then [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] ticks the boxes
For subdued ladylike vintage charm [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
For the girl with the outthere personality and lots of energy [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
Thanks, but to each’s own. I love [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], and that’s what vibe she gives off for me, so I’m going to keep [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] as it is. If [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is too cutesy for you, that is fine, but as you can tell from my signature - that’s my style. I might not have been clear enough in my post - I’m looking for names that could work with [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] as a cute sibling set. [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f], for example. I wasn’t looking for new names to replace [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] at all.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]! Some more that sprung to mind reading your post:
[name_f]Kezia/name_f
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Honor[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] (really like this with [name_f]Nancy[/name_f])
[name_f]Kitty[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]/[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]
@freya55 - thank you! I love [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and [name_f]Keziah[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and [name_f]Honor[/name_f], and [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f]!
I actually have a little portrait of my great-something grandmother from the 1820s looking very much like one of the little girls you described- her name was [name_f]Honor[/name_f] [name_f]Blanche[/name_f].
My great grandmother was a [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Nancy[/name_f](my middle name is after her) who went by Nan/Nancy and I have a pretty similar imagery from all the old pictures my grandma has of her - a little girl in a country village with tiny flowery dresses and kittens with ribbons etc. It’s more 1920s/30s, maybe even up to WW2 for me though, like [name_m]Rollo[/name_m] described.
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] was the name of [name_f]Enid[/name_f] Blyton’s daughter so it has a similar feeling to [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] (plus [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is always perfect in the middle!) - flowery dresses, summer gardens… her books are so full of delightful old English nostalgia (watch the film [name_f]Enid[/name_f] - it’s a drama based on her life; she was quite a terrible mother but it’s so interesting. Plus [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is played by the delightful [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] [name_m]Marquez[/name_m]).
These have a similar feel for me and I think their fairly your style (or at least their mine… we have similar taste I think!)…
[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Geraldine[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Gillian[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] ([name_f]Gillian[/name_f] was also [name_f]Enid[/name_f] Blyton’s daughter and I’ve always had a soft spot for it)
[name_u]Fran[/name_u] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Patience[/name_f]
[name_f]Queenie[/name_f] [name_f]Virginia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
I’ve just thought - Matilda is pretty perfect with Nancy. Matilda June, Matilda Gwen, Matilda Verity?
Ooh and I love the suggestion of [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and [name_f]Honor[/name_f]. I don’t usually like it but it’s lovely with [name_f]Nancy[/name_f].
[name_f]Honor[/name_f] [name_f]Blanche[/name_f] is lovely! I think if I use [name_f]Honor[/name_f], I’d use [name_f]Honor[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
@oliviasarah I love [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], and [name_f]Lola[/name_f] with [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], thank you!
