Nancy?

What are your thoughts on [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]? Is it usable again?

We’ve chosen to name our daughter Bay. Whether it be the first or middle name, this is the name she will predominantly go by.

[name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is my moms name. She was just diagnosed with cancer & I’d love to honor her in some way.

[name_f]Nancy[/name_f] Bay

Sisters name is [name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]. Last name is Elizondo.

[name_f]Nancy[/name_f] isn’t exactly ‘cool’ or ‘fresh’ in anyway, but honor names trump all of that. If you like [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and want to honor your mom then I think [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] sounds great!

I’ve wondered if Stranger Things might bring [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] back into style early. I think it’s a sweet name and a wonderful way to honor your mom.

Wow, good point! I forgot about the Stranger Things connection!

Our other top contenders are:

[name_f]Rosie[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_u]Bay[/name_u] [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]
[name_u]Bay[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u]

Sorry about your mom, I hope she gets well.
I really love [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], and predict a subtle rise in popularity in 2017 due to Stranger Things!
I wouldn’t use [name_u]Bay[/name_u] as a FN because I automatically think of a bay, but [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] is a cute combo and I wouldn’t hesitate to use it one bit.

I wanted to come back and mention that [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is also a family name for me, and when I’ve considered using it to honor that person I’ve always considered using [name_f]Anne[/name_f] names - [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], etc. I’ve also considered honoring her with names for boys like [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], which isn’t useful if you’re having a girl but I thought I’d mention it. Good luck!

[name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is adorable, I love it on a little girl. [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] Elizondo is a very nice name. I like it a lot with [name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f].

The only [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] I know is 16, so I think it’s just fine to use now. And with Stranger Things’ having a main cast member called [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], I wouldn’t double take if I met a young girl called this either. [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] is sweet and goes with [name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] really well.

I agree completely that with Stranger Things, meeting a little [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] wouldn’t be weird at all. The character has made me really like the name, actually.
I think [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] is a very sweet name, and I love the connection to your mom. Rosie Bay is also a cute name, but I think the honor name is much better in this situation.
Plus, [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] goes so nicely with [name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]!

(also, so sorry to here about your mom. I hope she gets well soon!)

[name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] is lovely and works well with the sister name. It is my favorite of your choices. Best wishes!

[name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] is sweet and definitely usable, works with the surname and sister’s name. It’s the best of your options I think.

I met a little girl named [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] several years ago, and it was adorable on her. Definitely usable.

I have an idea - [name_u]Bay[/name_u] [name_f]Nanette[/name_f]. I don’t think there is much point in using [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] if she’s just going to be [name_u]Bay[/name_u] but [name_f]Nanette[/name_f] is a diminutive of [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and I love the thought of it having a nannie sound in it to honor her nannie :two_hearts:.

I disagree with anyone who says [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] isn’t cool, I see it as a winner for two characters, [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Drew[/name_u] and [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_m]Wheeler[/name_m] (of Stranger Things). Both are pretty badass characters and I think give [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] the strength to cut it in 2017. I prefer [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] to [name_u]Bay[/name_u] [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], but either would be a lovely tribute to your mother as well as a marvelous choice from a naming perspective.

I love [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] - I think it has a nicely retro feel. For you I think [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] is a great combo!

Another “selling point” for Nancy - although still dated to many Americans it’s rising in the UK (now in the top 100 for England and Wales). To her generation Nancy may be like what Emma was to American Gen-Xers - still in “old lady” territory to many Americans but to her peers it may have a bit of a British feel (and may come back in style on this side of the pond when her generation starts to have children of their own).

Here are some other possibilities to consider…

[name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] and [name_u]Baylor[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]*
[name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] and [name_u]Baylee[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]*
[name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] and [name_f]Baylie[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]*

*You could substitute [name_f]Nan[/name_f] or [name_f]Nance[/name_f], instead of [name_f]Anne[/name_f], though I feel [name_f]Anne[/name_f] should be considered an honor name as [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is a diminutive of the name [name_f]Anne[/name_f].

[name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is a very dated 1950’s name. I understand that you want to honor your mum, but perhaps that can be done with [name_f]Nanette[/name_f]. [name_u]Bay[/name_u] [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] doesn’t sound right, but I am not a fan of [name_u]Bay[/name_u] and can’t imagine that it works with much.

I know someone that named thier baby [name_f]Martha[/name_f] after a beloved relative, and she took a figurative beating in school from having such an old-fashioned name. To this day, the parents wish they would have made [name_f]Martha[/name_f] the middle name, after seeing their daughter suffer so much.

Good luck to your mom–I know she has a long road ahead, but I hope all goes easy for her!
While [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] isn’t a personal favorite of mine, if it has importance significance to you, I say use it.
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f], as previously mentioned, is a character on Stranger Things, and I beileve it will make it more “usable”. I prefer names that aren’t over used, anyway
I am not sure about the name [name_u]Bay[/name_u], only because I think of the slang bae
But choose whatever you like. Good luck to everyone!
P.s. don’t worry about kids picking on her. Bullies will be bullies no matter what. And you can’t be there to protect your kids 100% of the time. So don’t worry about that, but that’s my opinion
