Narrow down our over-indulgent list!

There are a TON of names that DH and I agree on. We aren’t pregnant yet, but we need to have a name picked out before hand. Here is our too-long list of girl’s names. What names would you pair together? The only restriction is that the fn and mn have to come from this list. (I can’t tell you how many names we have looked at- but it was a lot.) I’m also putting our boy list on the boy name board and need a lot of help there, too.)
[name]Caroline[/name] (mn only)
[name]Claire[/name] (mn only)
[name]Eilidh[/name] (or Ailie to make it easier to pronounce- most likely a mn)
[name]Evangeline[/name] (our front-runner for a first name)
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] (mn only)
[name]Lexi[/name] (mn only)
[name]Lynn[/name] (mn only)

Some suggestions:

Thanks so much for the help! Our last name starts with B and sounds similar to [name]Michelle[/name], if it helps. I think we’ll end up using [name]Evangeline[/name] if we have another girl and could use more combos from our list, but it really helps to have other options. All of these names are kind of jumbled in my head because it took me so long to come up with these lists, so it helps to have a fresh set of eyes!

So, I think we came up with a name. So far, we like [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I didn’t have [name]Elizabeth[/name] on the list, but I did have [name]Eliza[/name] and [name]Beth[/name], so that’s cool. I was initially worried about it being too long, but since [name]Elizabeth[/name] is such a common name, I think it balances well ([name]Elizabeth[/name] is a family name, too, so that ties in with our daughter’s name). DH likes the idea of calling her E.E. and I like the nns [name]Elsie[/name] and Bitsie (along with a bunch of others- which is good, because my family loves nns). What do you think of [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]?

For the sake of brevity, I’ll only comment on the names that I feek I need to comment on or the names I don’t like. If I don’t mention it, assume I like it to some degree.

[name]Anne[/name]- I like [name]Anna[/name] much more, but [name]Anne[/name] isn’t bad.
[name]Auden[/name]- Hm. I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I think I like it better for a boy (especially since it’s so close to [name]Aiden[/name]), but it’s not really been used as a first name so I guess it isn’t male, and I see the appeal for a girl. I think I like [name]Audrey[/name] better, though.
[name]Beth[/name]- It’s really hard for me to picture this on a baby or young child. I like the classic-ness of [name]Elizabeth[/name] much better.
[name]Daphne[/name]- I don’t like the “phn” all in a row. It makes it sound awkward to me, the same way [name]Irma[/name] and [name]Mildred[/name] (from the “rm” and “ldr”) sound awkward.
[name]Deborah[/name]- I know nameberry likes this, but it’s a name from my parent’s generation to me, and I don’t like the possibility of [name]Debbie[/name]. It’s good as a middle, though.
[name]Eilidh[/name] (or Ailie to make it easier to pronounce- most likely a mn)- It’s okay as a middle spelled [name]Eilidh[/name], but as a first it’s too complicated, even when it’s spelled Ailie.
[name]Ellery[/name]- It just doesn’t appeal to me at all. Not sure why.
[name]Emlyn[/name]- Too close to the whole [name]Em[/name]- family, and seems trendy (I know it’s legit, but it’s a lot of trendy elements.)
[name]Faith[/name]- Not with [name]Grace[/name]. MAYBE as a middle.
[name]Felicity[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] with [name]Grace[/name]. It’s a virtue name as well, but much more subtle than [name]Faith[/name].
[name]Fionnuala[/name]- I get the appeal, but I think you’re asking for trouble with pronunciation.
[name]Hannah[/name]- This is okay, but I find it so soft. It’s not tough enough to me. [name]Even[/name] frilly, hyper-feminine names like [name]Isabella[/name] have l’s and b’s and s’s to give them a bit of strength. [name]Hannah[/name] I just find a bit weak, sound-wise. It’s not a bad name though.
[name]Ivy[/name]- I don’t like the sound or the plant, and I’d be worried about poison [name]Ivy[/name] teasing.
[name]Lexi[/name] (mn only)- Next to a name as full and classic as [name]Grace[/name] [name]Patricia[/name], [name]Lexi[/name] seems trendy and incomplete. I would use [name]Alexandra[/name], even in the middle.
[name]Lynn[/name] (mn only)- I find it very boring in the middle.
[name]Maelie[/name]- I love the whole [name]Maelys[/name]/[name]Maelle[/name] family, but I think it’s asking for pronunciation problems.
[name]Meryl[/name]- VERY awkward sounding to me, and so strongly associated with [name]Meryl[/name] Streep. She’s lovely, but you never know, and I’m always nervous when a name just screams one celebrity association, especially a living celebrity. [name]Just[/name] a year and a half ago, [name]Tiger[/name] Woods was a role model. I wouldn’t want the same to happen to [name]Meryl[/name] Streep if you have a daughter who shares her name.
[name]Penelope[/name]- Nameberryites love this, but in my area it’s a stereotypical “crazy” name. I feel like it’s trying too hard, but I do like [name]Nel[/name] quite a bit.
[name]Reese[/name]- I like it as a nickname for [name]Therese[/name]/[name]Teresa[/name], but not on its own.
[name]Rose[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] this name as a first.
[name]Sadie[/name]- Sounds childish to me.
[name]Scarlett[/name]- I’m not a fan at all, though I know a lot of people like it. It’s very harsh sounding to me, and I don’t like how it starts with “Scar” and rhymes with “Harlot.” I do like [name]Charlotte[/name], however. I think it’s softer and takes away the “Scar” thing.
[name]Wynn[/name]- [name]Don[/name]'t like the association with the word “[name]Win[/name].” Sure, it’s a great word, but what if she becomes an Olympic gymnast or something- [name]Wynn[/name] just lost? It’s kind of weird to me. I think it would make a really good middle name, though.

I think if it were me, I’d go with [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Alice[/name] [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Abigail[/name] [name]Sophie[/name], or [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Wynn[/name]. But I’m confident that whatever you come up with will be great- you’ve got excellent taste!

I love the alliteration of [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] ! It flows surprisingly well considering how long it is. They are two beautiful names!

Thanks so much for the help! I love some of the combos you guys came up with! We’ll almost certainly go with [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]- it meets all of our requirements and I think it goes pretty well with [name]Grace[/name] [name]Patricia[/name]. There are so many nickname opportunities, which is a big selling point for us.
