Since my last post, my husband and I have added one to our list and narrowed down to a couple others for our boy due in December. He’ll join older siblings Fiona Mae and Cormac Alexander. Looking for feedback and as always, new ideas. As soon as I narrow a list down, I’m always wanting to add to it I often find myself saying name ideas paired with Cormac (“Cormac and _____”), as I imagine they’ll be thick as thieves.
Names we’ve liked but probably won’t use are Fergus, Drake, Hugh, Graham, and Pasco. Favorite girl names are Alva and Demelza.
Trowan - A Cornish place name of significance to my husband’s heritage and our travels together. I like the nickname Ro.
Jory - Cornish nod to my husband’s grandfather George. I like its familiar sound, but it’s unique and jaunty at the same time. My biggest hang up is it might get shortened to Jo/Joe, which I don’t like.
Harry - A family name but less unique style-wise. I like that it reminds me of Cormac in the way it’s strong sounding but soft. It seems like it fits the hygge aesthetic, which I’ve always been drawn to…especially for two boys born in the winter.
Another name we’ve briefly discussed and like that hasn’t necessarily made The List yet is Aidric.
Have at it berries, in whatever way your intuition leads you
The first name that came to mind is [name_u]Darragh[/name_u] [name_u]Jory[/name_u]. I also like [name_u]Darragh[/name_u] Trowan. I’ve also seen it spelled Darra for a boy. From your list alone, I really like Aidric [name_u]Jory[/name_u], [name_u]Jory[/name_u] Trowan or [name_u]Jory[/name_u] Aidric.
If you don’t want the name to be shortened, make your intentions known. My brother had a similar problem and let everyone know. People will pay attention to what you want.
I’ll have to try and be more firm on that! Our son [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] got called Cormy as a baby, and now it’s one of two nicknames he’ll accept being called Reminds me of wormy!
Hopefully his preferences changes as he gets older!
I think all of them could potentially work, but I feel like [name_u]Jory[/name_u] and Trowan go better with [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. I personally wouldn’t think of shortening [name_u]Jory[/name_u] to Jo/Joe, but I could see it being misheard as [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. I think Aidric is really cool and would definitely work as a first name with [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. I also really like the combo [name_m]Locryn[/name_m] Aidric if you’re looking for other Cornish names!
I really like Aidric Jory for you! It’s distinct, but I love the sound, and you still get the meaning behind Jory without worrying if people will shorten it or not.
I really like [name_u]Harry[/name_u] with your kids names. [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] or [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]? Trowan feels a little out there by comparison. [name_u]Jory[/name_u] works too! Aidric feels a bit like an [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] variation.
It’s great to see where you’re at with your list. I’m pleased to see Jory has made the cut and that Trowan remains a strong option. I can understand your apprehension with the nickname but how many people named Jory have you met that actually go by Jo/Joe? It’s the standout name from your list for me so I guess I’m hopeful you can see past the small possibility that it will come up and the even smaller possibility that you won’t be able to influence the situation.
I like the idea of Aidric with the two older siblings. It has the hard ‘c’ sound from a few of the names you’ve considered. You might also like Finnick, although it does repeat an initial, or Beck. Another pattern from your list is two syllable names ending in ‘y’ so I’ll also suggest Branley and Seeley. The hygge aesthetic reminds me of the name Todd. It has a nice meaning and I just love the visual of the letter ‘o’ across all of the siblings.
Editing to suggest Tiernan. It’s a name I added recently to my own list. It just struck me as a name you might like.
I love Finnick/Fin! But I think it’s a little too close to [name_f]Fiona[/name_f].
And I’ve never met a [name_u]Jory[/name_u] myself! [name_f]My[/name_f] brother has a friend that goes by [name_u]Jory[/name_u] for [name_u]Jordan[/name_u], which I found interesting.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] your short list and your reasons behind them. [name_u]Or[/name_u] them, [name_u]Harry[/name_u] is my favorite and works with your sibset the best as I say them to myself.
And congratulations!
I like [name_u]Harry[/name_u] with [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_m]Cormac[/name_m], but I actually love [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] with [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]! [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] Trowan maybe?
