[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! [name_u]New[/name_u] to Nameberry Forums so sorry about formatting.
I am looking for advice on naming our 4th baby, second son. I have about 6 weeks left! He is joining siblings:
[name_f]Rosalia[/name_f] (Rosie), [name_f]Faustina[/name_f] (Fia), and [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m] (Iggy)
We are nickname people and use them interchangeably with their full first names. So they hear both equally. We are Catholic so these names were chosen for specific saints and meanings. I am pretty picky and like more unique names, so if something seems to be getting popular, it makes me wary.
What names seem nice with our sibset, meanings, middle name combinations? [name_u]Ive[/name_u] pretty much exhausted all the names scouring lists and this is what we agree on (RIP to all the vetoed names). I am just trying to make sense of my thoughts and look at middle name combos.
Our agreed on first name list (in no particular order:
[name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] (Milo)
[name_u]Augustine[/name_u] (Gus or Auggie)
[name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u] (Tad or Taddy)
Lesser likes:
[name_m]Bastian[/name_m] (Bash)
[name_m]Bosco[/name_m] (Bo)
Middle name options (in no particular order):
[name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_u]John[/name_u], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_u]Blaise[/name_u], [name_u]Milo[/name_u], [name_m]Benedict[/name_m], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_u]Augustine[/name_u], [name_m]Benedict[/name_m]
Considerations on the names/nicknames:
Summary
[name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] nn [name_u]Milo[/name_u]: my husband had a beloved dog growing up named [name_u]Max[/name_u] that died while we were dating, so we do not want to use [name_u]Max[/name_u] as a nn. We love St. [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] [name_m]Kolbe[/name_m]. [name_u]Milo[/name_u] is an anglicanized version given to an old irish name Maolmhuire meaning âSevant of the [name_u]Blessed[/name_u] Virgin Mary.â The meaning of [name_u]Milo[/name_u] is soldier and [name_m]Kolbe[/name_m] was a soldier for [name_f]Mary[/name_f] aince he started the Militia of the [name_f]Immaculata[/name_f]. So essentially, this name and nickname combination has a very special meaning. I am hesitant because [name_u]Milo[/name_u] is fast rising. And isnt the most obvious nickname, like [name_u]Max[/name_u] is, but it has been used before.
[name_u]Augustine[/name_u] nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u] or [name_m]Auggie[/name_m]: my husbands favorite. He loves Auggie/Auggy. But i worry [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] and [name_u]Iggy[/name_u] are just waaaay too similar. [name_u]Ive[/name_u] caught myself feeling embarrassed in oubkic imagining calling my son [name_u]Iggy[/name_u] to come to me and then having to follow it up with âAuggie.â Its just too much. [name_u]Gus[/name_u] isnt my husbandâs favorite, and im not sure about it. Also, [name_u]August[/name_u] is fast rising and many seem to be using [name_u]Gus[/name_u] as a nickname. And im not in love with [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. But we both love St. [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] and his conversion.
[name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u] nn [name_m]Tad[/name_m] or [name_m]Taddy[/name_m]: when I first heard [name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u] I thought it would be the one for my next baby before i found out I was pregnant. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband wasnt sure, but now he likes it and now im not sure! I do like it, but I liked [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] with it, and my husband did not at all. He liked [name_m]Tad[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Taddy[/name_m] is sweet for when he is little. I pove St. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u], patron of impossible causes. [name_u]Ive[/name_u] had a lot of health issues and him as a patron would be special.
[name_m]Bastian[/name_m] nn Bash: I think this name is just so cool, and my husband really likes it. Though I dont have a very special connection to St. [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. I dont like that [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] is super popular now. And when I discussed baby names with extended family (probably shouldnât have) [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] was hated and they though of bastard and disliked the name. It was a turn off.
[name_m]Bosco[/name_m] nn [name_u]Bo[/name_u]: love this for St. [name_u]John[/name_u] [name_m]Bosco[/name_m]. Husband is on the fence but loves [name_u]Bo[/name_u] (we live in the south in the US). Cute and unique but maybe too out there? I love it though.
Bonus: [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] nn ?: my husband loves [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] almost as much as [name_u]Augustine[/name_u]. But i dont like [name_m]Ben[/name_m]. To me, its overused and reminds me of the popular [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] who we know many of. [name_m]Benny[/name_m] would get shortened to [name_m]Benny[/name_m]. [name_u]Bennett[/name_u] is meh for me. Bec/Bex as compromise is ok. I just cant find a way to like it.
