Narrowing down our girls names

My husband and I have been on vacation this week, so we’ve had more time to chat about names than usual. I think we’ve narrowed down our list for Phoebe’s little sister to the following names. Middle name will most likely be June as it’s a family name.

Sylvie - my top choice, he has come around to it. I think I could get him to fully commit but I picked Phoebe’s name too, which he loves; but I don’t want to land on this without giving his choices more thought.

Johanna - his top choice, nickname would be Jo or Jojo. I like the sound and the meaning, I don’t love that it peaked in the 80s.

Imogene - one we both like. My biggest hesitation is the spelling/pronunciation. would prefer to go with Imogen as it’s more well known but he only knows the name from the classic kids book and the character in the Marvelous Mrs Maisel, so he prefers Imogene to Imogen.

What are your thoughts?!

  • Imogene June
  • Sylvie June
  • Johanna June

I am partial to [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f], as I love the name [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. I am expecting my third and plan to name them [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] if they are a girl!

Also [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] has been in my top five girl names since forever! [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f] for the win.

I had to vote for [name_f]Johanna[/name_f], because I have a daughter named [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]!

I honestly wouldn’t worry that it peaked in the 1980s. Its highest rank on the SSA charts was #265 in 1984. It’s not like [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] or [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], which had big spikes. [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] is really a timeless name which has been in use throughout all the decades. You could meet a [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] who’s 80 years old, or 50, or 20, or 5 like my daughter.

[name_f]Johanna[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f] is cute, if you don’t mind the alliteration. [name_m]Honour[/name_m] trumps flow to me, so as [name_f]June[/name_f] is a family name, it’s fine by me.

I also think [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] are lovely for sisters. They sound smart and polished, but fun too (especially if they’re [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and Jojo!)

[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f] is my favorite! It sounds beautiful. It’s fresh, gentle, colorful and elegant. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] has a great meaning. [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f] is very sweet but also adventurous. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] are a little bit similar in sound, but they work well together.
[name_f]Johanna[/name_f] is lovely, too! I really like this name! [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] was one of my top names when I was younger. I see [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] as a classic. In my country, for example, [name_f]Joana[/name_f] also became extremely popular in the 80s, but it still remains a top common for children born nowadays. It’s a little less popular (which I see as a bonus), but it still shines! [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] and its variants will always be found in the top charts somewhere in the world, I believe. [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f] is a nice choice. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] sound wonderful for sisters!
[name_f]Imogene[/name_f] is a good name, just not my favorite choice. I think both spellings are great. Perhaps you could check which spelling is the most popular and intuitive where you live?

I like all these choices so this was difficult. I eliminated [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f] on the basis of flow - the ‘gene-June’ thing doesn’t work for me. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f] undoubtedly has the best ring to it and I like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] lots, but I’m not a huge fan of both girls having the same ending sounds, and while I do love the name its ubiquity on here is making me a little fatigued with it - I love this family of names but I’d actually prefer [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] / [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] with [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f].

I voted for [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f]. I actually think this is the most unexpected pairing with [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], I like the cute alliteration and how both names are a different style of classic. Together they’re a buttoned up and elegant pair with a touch of quirk / [name_f]British[/name_f] eccentricity (not sure if you are British), which I like.
