Girls names feels so much easier this time around. We would very much appreciate your help with narrowing our boys list down to a top 5 (5-ish).
This is our list, with some questions and thoughts from us.
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] - is it boring? And does it fit in with our other childrens names?
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] - a solid classic, but maybe it’s too classical?
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - is hee doomed to be a [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] among others? I like [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], I just think it’s a shame to let [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] get ‘lost in translation’.
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m] - does it sound okay with our surname, [name_m]Knight[/name_m]?
[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] - does it fit in, or does it have a different kind of vibe?
[name_u]Robin[/name_u] - Too informal? We live in the UK, so the gender would be pretty clear
[name_m]Casper[/name_m] - too ghostly? And maybe childish?
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - Does it sounds ridiculous with surname [name_m]Knight[/name_m]? [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Knight[/name_m]?
Really loving [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Casper[/name_m]! Although I prefer the [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] spelling, or even the [name_m]Kaspar[/name_m]/[name_m]Kasper[/name_m] ones (something about [name_m]Casper[/name_m] just doesn’t sit right with me, for some reason…) To round out the five, I would add [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] ([name_u]Freddie[/name_u]'s adorable. I’m just the opposite–I’d go for [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] just to get to [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]; plus, my beloved [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] connection with Persuasion!), and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], I think. Although I could be convinced for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]; I do like that a lot, as well, and I love his nicknames.
Now I’m insanely jealous–what does your girls’ list look like? I remember you had tossed around [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] a while ago, and I still really loved that with your other ones.
That was pretty easy actually. I find [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]/[name_u]Freddie[/name_u] too similar to [name_m]Edward[/name_m]/[name_m]Ed[/name_m]/[name_m]Eddie[/name_m]/[name_m]Ned[/name_m]; [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] too similar to [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]; [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] too similar to [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]; [name_m]Casper[/name_m] too non-traditional; [name_u]Robin[/name_u] just don’t like; I added [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] back as a 6th. I guess [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] share an ending with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], but that doesn’t bother me enough to be eliminated. My faves tho are [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m].
I could get it down to my top 6 for you - [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], and [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]. [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] being my favorite.
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]/[name_m]Patrick[/name_m] - because [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] ends in a similar sound
[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]/[name_u]Robin[/name_u] - ends in “n” like [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - too similar in sound to [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] - same initial as [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and ending as [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Casper[/name_m] - matchy ending with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
We still like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], but we are not going to use it as a first name. Maybe as a middle. Our girls list looks like this: [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]. And possibly [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] as well.
and so is [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m].
[name_m]Casper[/name_m] sounds funny with [name_m]Knight[/name_m] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Knight[/name_m] ([name_m]Arthur[/name_m] my fave name on your list) sounds - alas - silly with [name_m]Knight[/name_m].
I do find [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] a bit boring. Out of your list, I think [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] works best with your sibset. [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Casper[/name_m], and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] are also nice.
The others seem a little too different stylistically. Except for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. That one is a great fit, but I do think [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Knight[/name_m] would be a little cheesy.
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] - Such a strong, classic name. Popular but not at all boring, in my opinion.
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] - There’s a reason it’s been used again and again! I love this sweet, timeless choice.
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - So underrated! I like both [name_m]Fred[/name_m] and [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], but the full [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is so elegant.
[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] - [name_u]Forever[/name_u] a favorite of mine. I love the nickname [name_u]Max[/name_u], and [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] has a regal quality to it.
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - Incredibly charming. Again, love the history behind this name.
Thank you everyone!
We are now down to 8: [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]
[name_m]Casper[/name_m] is sweet, and while I don’t think of the ghost, others might. And it bugs me.
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is lovely, and I would use it in a heartbeat if our surname wasn’t [name_m]Knight[/name_m].
[name_u]Robin[/name_u] is another one I really like, and I like the [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood association. But it feels too informal with our other childrens names, and the name runs together with our surname.
[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] also runs together with [name_m]Knight[/name_m], and it was just a name we both thought was ‘okay’, but nothing we loved.
I think [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] are perfect with your bunch. I think [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is my favorite and no, he’s not boring. Congrats on #7!
Congratulations on number 7! I love [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] with your other childrens names.
