I have way too many names, and I’m not going to even have that many children! I’d like some help narrowing down my girls’ choices. It would be much appreciated if you could state what you think of each, and then maybe tell me your top five? If you like you can do just one and not the other. Here they are:
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Rebecca[/name] nn [name]Becca[/name]
[name]Diana[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Marina[/name]
[name]Dove[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Amoret[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Autumn[/name]
[name]Plum[/name]
[name]Camilla[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name]
[name]Maple[/name]
[name]Agnes[/name] nn [name]Nessie[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Gemma[/name]
[name]Winter[/name]
[name]Saskia[/name]
[name]Elinor[/name] nn [name]Ellie[/name]
[name]Eira[/name]
[name]Thisbe[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Beth[/name] (still searching for full name, see another one of my threads)
[name]Ruby[/name]- [name]One[/name] of my favorites. I’ve known a couple of babies and one older woman with this name, and it works across the board.
[name]Sophie[/name]- Another nice name, and preferable to [name]Sophia[/name].
[name]Rebecca[/name] nn [name]Becca[/name]- I grew up with so many Rebeccas. Probably the biggest downside to knowing so many is you’re bound to get at least one negative experience with a [name]Rebecca[/name]. I’ve had several, so I’m not really a fan of the name.
[name]Diana[/name]- I love the history of the name, but I’ve never been a fan of the sound.
[name]Helena[/name]- I prefer the “[name]Helen[/name]-a” pronunciation to “Heh-lay-na”. Which would you use?
[name]Marina[/name]- I just think of a marina…
[name]Dove[/name]- Not a fan. Doves aren’t really very pretty birds.
[name]Pearl[/name]- Simple and sweet.
[name]Mae[/name]- I love this! Especially with this spelling. Very sweet and works well on all ages.
[name]Rose[/name]- [name]One[/name] of my favorites.
[name]Amoret[/name]- This doesn’t look pretty.
[name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name]- Not really a fan of the full name or the nickname. Very popular right now.
[name]Scarlett[/name]- [name]One[/name] of my least favorite names. I do not like the literary association or the Fever association.
[name]Audrey[/name]- Wonderful name! My favorite combination of all time is [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Audrey[/name].
[name]Autumn[/name]- I prefer [name]Winter[/name].
[name]Plum[/name]- Cute, but I think it works best as a middle name.
[name]Camilla[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name]- [name]Love[/name] the name and the nn! I had a dog named [name]Camille[/name], or I would use it myself.
[name]Maple[/name]- Could work well in the middle spot
[name]Agnes[/name] nn [name]Nessie[/name]- Oh, how I love this name!! I wish I could get my husband onboard. And [name]Nessie[/name] is adorable!
[name]Violet[/name]- I love this name in theory, but the [name]Willie[/name] Wonka reference is too prominent in my family. They wouldn’t let me live it down. I’d like to see someone else use it!
[name]Gemma[/name]- Never really understood the appeal of this name. [name]Emma[/name] is lovely.
[name]Winter[/name]- Very nice. Works best in the middle.
[name]Saskia[/name]- I love this name more and more every time I see it!
[name]Elinor[/name]- [name]Love[/name] this name and this spelling! It’s on my list.
[name]Eira[/name]- It seems incomplete
[name]Thisbe[/name]- [name]One[/name] of my guilty pleasures. Not sure how well it would work in real life. Perfect for the middle spot.
[name]Lyra[/name]- I like this name, but it’s not one of my favorites.
[name]Beth[/name]- I like [name]Beth[/name] as it is.
I can see why you’re having trouble narrowing the list down. You have a lot of great names here!
This may take a minute…
Let’s see…
My top 5:
[name]Agnes[/name]
[name]Elinor[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]
1.[name]Scarlett[/name] (that’s my daughters’s name so I am biased
2.[name]Evelyn[/name]
3.[name]Camilla[/name]
4.[name]Violet[/name]
5.[name]Autumn[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]- I love, love, love the name [name]Ruby[/name]. I think its spunky, sweet, and fresh- sounding.
[name]Sophie[/name]- Very pretty, and feminine. A little trendy.
[name]Rebecca[/name] nn [name]Becca[/name]- Not a fan. I love vintage names, but not this one.
[name]Diana[/name]- Really don’t like it.
[name]Helena[/name]- I love [name]Helena[/name]. It’s really pretty, and ages well.
[name]Marina[/name]- I dislike this. [name]Marin[/name], however, is pretty.
[name]Dove[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] IT. Adorable.
[name]Pearl[/name]- Very vintage and cute.
[name]Mae[/name]- I think mae is super sweet. Its overused as a mn, but as a first name, I love it.
[name]Rose[/name]- Sort of nickname-y to me. I love [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Rosalyn[/name], [name]Rosaline[/name], etc though.
[name]Amoret[/name]- Not sure how to pronounce this, Im saying it like om-or-ette, and I dislike it.
[name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name]- On my own list. I think [name]Evelyn[/name] is underused, and vintage sounding which I adore. [name]Evie[/name] is sweet, but I adore the simpler, [name]Eve[/name].
[name]Scarlett[/name]- Very cute. I love the possible nn [name]Letty[/name].
[name]Audrey[/name]- I also love this one. Its simple, and classic, but beautiful.
[name]Autumn[/name]- Dislike it, dislike it, dislike it. Its trendy. I hate season names.
[name]Plum[/name]- [name]Plum[/name] I dont really like all too well. Maybe as a mn? Try pomeline. It means plum, but its slightly more usable. On a diff not, I love [name]Clementine[/name].
[name]Camilla[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name]- Used to be on my list. I still love it.
[name]Maple[/name]- As a mn this would be adorable. [name]Maple[/name]. I could totally see this working.
[name]Agnes[/name] nn [name]Nessie[/name]- Also used to be on my own list. [name]Agnes[/name] is a little old, but deserves a comeback. [name]Nessie[/name] is cute. I prefer [name]Vanessa[/name] nn [name]Nessie[/name].
[name]Violet[/name]- I love old vintage sounding names. This one however, is trending. If that doesnt bother you though, then great.
[name]Gemma[/name]- I adore [name]Gemma[/name].
[name]Winter[/name]- Not feeling it.
[name]Saskia[/name]- I dont like this. It just sounds weird to me.
[name]Elinor[/name] nn [name]Ellie[/name]- Very elegant sounding. I like it, especially nn [name]Ellie[/name].
[name]Eira[/name]- Eye-ruh? Wouldnt [name]Ira[/name] be a better spelling? Am i pronouncing this wrong?
[name]Thisbe[/name]- Like a frisbee? Nuff said.
[name]Lyra[/name]- [name]Love[/name] it. Its one of the only constellation names I like.
[name]Beth[/name]- Not my cup of tea at all. I do love [name]Elisabeth[/name] though.
[name]Ruby[/name] - Spunky, vintage, European-esque
[name]Sophie[/name] - sounds like a nickname. I would use [name]Sophia[/name] nn [name]Sophie[/name]. I love [name]Sophie[/name] as a nickname.
[name]Rebecca[/name] nn [name]Becca[/name] - sounds a bit dated to me
[name]Diana[/name] - I personally adore this name, I don’t know if everyone else would. Maybe a middle name spot
[name]Helena[/name] - vintage, feminine
[name]Marina[/name] - adore this name. reminds me of marina and the diamonds.
[name]Dove[/name] - [name]Don[/name]'t like it as a first name spot. It could work as a middle name
[name]Pearl[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] this name. So strong and beautiful. It has a very special meaning.
[name]Mae[/name] - Overused as a middle name. I can’t imagine it as a first name
[name]Rose[/name] - Refreshing to use it as a first name rather than a middle name. I like it better than it’s other variations
[name]Amoret[/name] - Too strange for my taste
[name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] - Although I love vintage names, this name still conjures up old lady images. What about sweet [name]Eve[/name] or glam [name]Eva[/name]?
[name]Scarlett[/name] - sexy, glamorous, vintage
[name]Audrey[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the meaning. Sounds strong
[name]Autumn[/name] - I adore this name! So girly but not overdone
[name]Plum[/name] - I like it as a middle name! European-esque
[name]Camilla[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name] - not a fan of either name
[name]Maple[/name] - not a fan of this either
[name]Agnes[/name] nn [name]Nessie[/name] - [name]Agnes[/name], no offense, just seems ugly to me. Im sorry !
[name]Violet[/name] - [name]Love[/name], love, love. I hope it doesn’t get too popular
[name]Gemma[/name] - not common, european-esque, feminine
[name]Winter[/name] - [name]Don[/name]'t particularly like this one…
[name]Saskia[/name] - beautiful name. I love it! Very worldly but still easy to pronounce
[name]Elinor[/name] nn [name]Ellie[/name] - I prefer the [name]Eleanor[/name] spelling
[name]Eira[/name] - not a fan of this one
[name]Thisbe[/name] - good if you’re a literature fan, unique, might have mispronounciation and teasing
[name]Lyra[/name] - Good as a middle name
[name]Beth[/name] - seems outdated. What about [name]Elizabeth[/name] nn [name]Elsie[/name]?
My top 5 - [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Marina[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Violet[/name]
My top 10 - [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Marina[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Autumn[/name], [name]Gemma[/name], [name]Diana[/name], [name]Sophie[/name], [name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Eira[/name] - I love [name]Eira[/name] too, gorgeous and proves a name doesn’t need to be long to be stunning.
[name]Sophie[/name] - Classic & pretty [name]Sophie[/name], I love this. much better than [name]Sophia[/name].
[name]Agnes[/name] - My first name. [name]One[/name] of the names that require dark hair, a little quirkiness and a touch of beauty.
[name]Lyra[/name] - I really picture starry skies when I hear this name. Beautiful.
[name]Audrey[/name] - Beautiful [name]Audrey[/name]. Very vintage and pretty.
[name]Plum[/name] - Spunky little plum. You can’t have a chubby child by this name, though.
[name]Diana[/name] - Epic beauty. Underused and very related to our late beautiful [name]Princess[/name] [name]Di[/name].
[name]Rose[/name] - The most beautiful flower, and the most beautiful one syllable name.
Like:
[name]Rebecca[/name] nn [name]Becca[/name] - nice hebrew name, every other girl at temple is called [name]Rebecca[/name].
[name]Helena[/name] - Very beautiful, and thanks to Bonham [name]Carter[/name] a wee bit crazy.
[name]Marina[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name] dark blue name. I like it very much.
[name]Dove[/name] - it’s pretty, but a bit soapy?
[name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] - I like [name]Evelyn[/name], but you have better names.
[name]Scarlett[/name] - So popular… and i have to say, a bit boring.
[name]Autumn[/name] - This almost made the top 10, a great seasonal name.
[name]Camilla[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name] - Pretty with a sweet spunky nn.
[name]Maple[/name] - I think of beautiful [name]Maple[/name] trees first, then miss Marple. ?
[name]Winter[/name] - I like [name]Winter[/name], but [name]Autumn[/name] feels more first namey.
[name]Elinor[/name] nn [name]Ellie[/name] - Pretty, but a bit boring.
[name]Beth[/name] (still searching for full name, see another one of my threads) - I love [name]Beth[/name] if you use just [name]Beth[/name].
[name]Don[/name]'t like:
[name]Ruby[/name] - This is an annoying name. don’t like.
[name]Pearl[/name] - Same, just worse. If you want a precious stone: [name]Garnet[/name], [name]Peridot[/name], [name]Topaz[/name].
[name]Mae[/name] - Boring.
[name]Violet[/name] - I don’t get this name. [name]Violette[/name] or [name]Violetta[/name] are lovely though.
[name]Gemma[/name] - Sort of a trashy name, at least for me.
[name]Thisbe[/name] - The tragic and boring inspiration for annoying and boring [name]Juliet[/name]? NO.
[name]Ruby[/name] - It’s ok, but I’m not a huge fan.
[name]Sophie[/name] - ditto
[name]Rebecca[/name] nn [name]Becca[/name] - I adore the name!!
[name]Diana[/name] - I like it.
[name]Helena[/name] - Very pretty! However, I think the mixed possible pronunciations would be a pain.

[name]Dove[/name] - Not a big fan.
[name]Pearl[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it!
[name]Mae[/name] - Very pretty!
[name]Rose[/name] - Nice!
[name]Amoret[/name] - Not a fan.
[name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] - I should love the name [name]Evelyn[/name] because I like the individual components, but I’ve never been able to warm up to the name. However, I adore [name]Eve[/name] and [name]Eva[/name].
[name]Scarlett[/name] - It’s ok. I used to like it more than I do now.
[name]Audrey[/name] - Not bad.

[name]Camilla[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name] - Pretty!

[name]Agnes[/name] nn [name]Nessie[/name] - Not terrible, but not my style.
[name]Violet[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it!
[name]Gemma[/name] - Not a fan. I know it’s pronounced with a soft G sound, but the hard G comes to mind when I see this name, and it makes me think of gum.

[name]Saskia[/name] - Not a big fan.
[name]Elinor[/name] nn [name]Ellie[/name] - Prefer [name]Eleanor[/name]

[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Beth[/name]
[name]Marina[/name]
