I recently came across the name [name_f]Nasrin[/name_f], which is arabic for wild rose. What do you guys think of it? Would you feel comfortable using a name of arabic origins without having any ties to the region, specifically if you’re from the US?
It’s beautiful, and I love the meaning! I’m not sure it’s a name I’d feel comfortable using myself without any ties to the Arabic world but I wouldn’t question someone for wanting to use it for the sound/meaning alone.
The name page says it’s “harsh to the English-tuned ear”, but it doesn’t sound too dissimilar to a name like [name_f]Yasmin[/name_f], so I think it perfectly usable and has a pleasing sound. Naz/Nazzy would be a cute nn.
I wouldn’t feel comfortable, personally, though I love both the name and its meaning.
I like the name [name_f]Nasrin[/name_f], and it’s meaning. I don’t know if I’d feel comfortable using arabic names, I think it depends on how popular they are. I don’t live in the US though.
I like the meaning but I don’t like the sound. It sounds a bit harsh to me.
It’s beautiful! I love the meaning, it has a mysterious feel Usability would ultimately depend on how you feel.
I love the meaning and I don’t mind the sound, although I personally wouldn’t feel too comfortable using it (I’m from the UK).
I really like [name_f]Nasrin[/name_f]. It’s very beautiful and the meaning is so sweet. I have also seen it in the form Nesrine which I really like too. I can understand the hesitation around using Arabic names in the [name_u]West[/name_u] because of negative stereotypes and racism. But when I think about it, [name_f]Layla[/name_f] and [name_f]Yasmin[/name_f] are Arabic names and they’re fairly common in the [name_u]West[/name_u].
[name_f]Nasrin[/name_f] is gorgeous and I love the meaning but I’d be hesitant to use an Arabic name
Thank you for all your feedback! Some really good points made by @tfzolghadr too!
I love the meaning and think the name itself is beautiful. But from what I understand it’s pronounced Naz-reen (correct me if I’m wrong) so my biggest hesitation would be that it sounds too close to Nazarene, and we have a large community where I live who are part of the church of the Nazarenes, who commonly refer to themselves as Nazarenes, and I feel like that would just be confusing. But that may not be a problem where you live, tbh I don’t know how prevalent that church is in other parts of the country or outside of the US.
That’s really great insight! Thank you for sharing! I found the name in my baby name book and thought it was so intriguing and beautiful
