I’ve referred to these forums for naming each of our babies, but baby #3 has me totally stuck. He’s our first boy, and I need your help!
Sisters are [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Posy[/name_f] [name_u]Vivien[/name_u]. [name_u]Baby[/name_u] boy’s middle name(s) will most likely be Numa [name_m]Jerome[/name_m] (both are family names). We are looking for another nature-inspired, planet earth kind of name, but can’t agree on anything. I love [name_m]Cove[/name_m]. Husband loves [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m]. We both like [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], but don’t want people thinking he’s a girl.
Any and all suggestions are welcome! We’re not sold on anything, and don’t want to sound like super plant-loving family.
So many great options! [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] has been a consideration. And I loved [name_u]August[/name_u] until we found out we’re due in [name_u]August[/name_u]. Keep 'em coming! Thanks so much!
I LOVED [name_f]Briar[/name_f] for a girl, but my husband continues to hate it for a boy. [name_u]Sage[/name_u] is another great one we’ve considered…but again worry that it sounds too feminine. Naming a boy is so hard!
I love the previous suggestion of [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]. Was going to suggest it myself. I also like [name_u]River[/name_u] and [name_u]Everest[/name_u].
What about [name_m]Inigo[/name_m] instead of [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]?
I don’t think [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] is associated with a girl- the O sound is very masculine. I love [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m] and [name_m]Cove[/name_m]! [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m] is a little wacky and more out there but could be toned down with [name_m]Huck[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Cove[/name_m] is just beautiful!
[name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Posy[/name_f] and…
[name_m]Inigo[/name_m] Numa [name_m]Jerome[/name_m]
[name_u]Lake[/name_u] Nume [name_m]Jerome[/name_m]
[name_m]Bear[/name_m] Numa [name_m]Jerome[/name_m]
Ackley Numa [name_m]Jerome[/name_m]
[name_u]Ash[/name_u] Numa [name_m]Jerome[/name_m]
Thank you! I think [name_m]Cove[/name_m] is the business…and completely agree about [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m]. Plus, it’s a very long name to pair with two middle names. I wish I liked [name_m]Huck[/name_m] alone, but it feels distinctly “nickname” to me. That being said, we would call a [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m] [name_m]Huck[/name_m] and an [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Indie[/name_f]. I can’t get behind [name_m]Inigo[/name_m] though - it is forever synonymous with [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Bride[/name_f].
So many great names here! [name_u]Sequoia[/name_u] was actually on our list when naming our first, but she is 100% [name_f]Fern[/name_f]. Keep them coming, please, I knew I could count on the Nameberry community!
I personally love love love [name_m]Cove[/name_m] and [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] is seriously cute and awesome for a little boy, but here’s a few more off the top of my head congratulations btw [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] nature names!!
[name_u]Ocean[/name_u]
[name_m]Birch[/name_m]
Alder

[name_m]Flint[/name_m]
[name_m]Stone[/name_m]
[name_u]Rain[/name_u]

[name_u]Dale[/name_u]/[name_m]Dallen[/name_m] (means dale/valley)
[name_m]Moss[/name_m]
Adder
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_m]Gaius[/name_m] (like [name_f]Gaia[/name_f], meaning [name_f]Earth[/name_f] but with a masculine spin. [name_f]May[/name_f] be a bit of a stretch Nature-wise)
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_m]Wolf[/name_m], [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_u]Lake[/name_u], [name_u]Storm[/name_u], [name_m]Forrest[/name_m], [name_u]Reed[/name_u], [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], [name_m]Talon[/name_m], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_m]Leif[/name_m], and [name_m]Thorn[/name_m] all come to mind.
Thanks so much everyone. I actually started a separate poll for this, but curious if my fellow nature name fans see [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] as a girl’s name. I’ve only heard it on girls, myself. Thoughts from the group?
I really like [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] for a boy. I immediately thought of [name_u]Cedar[/name_u], and I think it’s goes well with [name_f]Fern[/name_f] and [name_f]Posy[/name_f]. For [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m], have you thought of using just [name_u]Berry[/name_u]? I knew a guy in HS named [name_u]Berry[/name_u] and it fit him.
Some more ideas: sorry for any repeats

[name_u]Leaf[/name_u]
[name_m]Park[/name_m]/[name_u]Parker[/name_u]
[name_u]Lake[/name_u]
To answer your question about [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], I think it’s better suited to a girl. In general, I think most color names are better suited to girls. However, I wouldn’t scoff at someone who named a boy [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]. It could work for a boy too. I just prefer it on a girl.
