Nausea

Did you have it during pregnancy? A lot of it or only every once in a while? And how about vomiting? And during labor? I know this varies a lot from person to person. I am not pregnant and we aren’t trying quite yet, but in the next couple of years! And honestly, this is one of the things that I am least looking forward to and makes me be able to stand holding off a while more for a baby. I HATE throwing up and feeling nauseous… Ick. I can handle pain really well. but… [name]Just[/name] not this. I had kidney stones once, and while the pain was the worse thing I’ve ever felt, it was somewhat bearable. The nausea that accompanied it however, was not.

Anyways, I know it’s kind of a gross subject, I wa just curious!

I was queasy and dizzy for about a week in early pregnancy, probably around 8-10 weeks. I never threw up, because I also hate throwing up and I have trained myself to keep it together. Later in pregnancy, like 35+ weeks, I had indigestion and acid reflux really bad so I would get nauseous every once in awhile. I had no nausea during labor/delivery. [name]Morning[/name] sickness is unlike regular nausea in my opinion, it feels like you’re spinning really fast in a circle. The nausea is due to your head spinning and being dizzy. It throws your equilibrium off I guess.

I’m at week 16 and never had any morning sickness. Tired? Absolutely! Headaches? Yep. Clumsiness, short-term memory loss, etc. etc., but never any nausea or vomiting. You never know, some of us get lucky!

With Roo I had very little morning sickness, some neusea but no throwing up (like RGE this is something I hate and I’ve trained myself to hold back). I was also very tired, but basically it felt like I had something coming along, like a migraine. This was between week 6 and 8. Then it, for the most, went away.

This little bunny is another story. I think I’m seven-eight weeks along, and I’m so sick. Not just nausea and fatigue, I’m throwing up constantly. I hope it will stop soon cause it’s wearing me out. The thing is though, when you’re pregnant you can handle it, because it’s all for the little baby.

I had mild nausea and vomited a few times in the first trimester. I also vomited during labour but didn’t feel nauseous for more than 20 mins or so. For me food aversions were a lot worse than the nausea.

I almost didn’t have any sickness at all, just felt a little bit tired. [name]Lemon[/name] juice/lemon helped me very well and of course you can handle almost everything for your darling babe. L&D all went well without any sickness, just bearable pain. [name]Don[/name]'t worry, all women can go through it.

The food aversions were terrible! The thought of eating anything other than the food I was craving almost made me sick. Until I was 12 weeks or so, all I wanted was grilled chicken and caesar salads. If I even thought about eating something else, it would turn my stomach. I remember being so grossed out by a baked potato with sour cream, I literally had to leave the room to get away from the smell of it.

For me every pregnancy has been different.

[name]Elizabeth[/name] - All day, all night, 24 hours a day 7 days a week nausea and vomiting atleast 7/8 times a day from before my period was even late until after I have birth (40 weeks 4 days) It was hell and I spent a lot of time in hospital, nothing helped ease it :frowning: I lost 15kg and had my daughter was underweight at birth.

[name]Annabelle[/name] - Started the same as with [name]Elizabeth[/name] but by 20 weeks I was only vomiting in the mornings. As long as i remebered my medication some days wouldn’t vomit at all. I still felt nauseous all day and night though.

This pregnancy I had nausea from 4 weeks and vomiting only in the afternoon/night. It all eased off by 10 weeks and I don’t even have nausea now (17 weeks) I have been getting horrible migraines though an even had to spend 3 days in hospital because of it 2 weeks ago, my OB and neurologist don’t think the migraines are pregnancy related however.

I only vomited twice in the first trimester, both when I didn’t eat first thing in the AM. Most of the time my stomach just felt slightly off…pretty mild overall.

Agree on the aversions though --I still can’t handle sweet potatoes or dill.

Oh, yeah, the food aversions are bad, going into the kitchen is a minefield. I actually threw up on my husband’s feet the other day (accidental, I tried not to do it in the fridge), very charming.

I’ve been pretty lucky in past pregnancies. This one however seems to be knocking me on my butt.
I’ve been quite sick for the last two weeks. I’m very glad that the three oldest are at grandmas for the week so that I can have a break with just the twins. I used to just get nausea but this time it’s been all day vomiting.

I am the mother of five, and expecting my sixth and seventh!

For most of my pregnancy’s it’s been ok, but for this one the sickness is terrible!

I think I should just move into the bathroom!

I don’t get any warning about it, I just throw up everywhere. :frowning:

I only have two weeks left, and I’ve been vomiting for the last eight months!

I feel crap. :frowning:

You are sooooooooooooooooooo lucky

I thought you were the mother of six and expecting triplets and are nine months pregnant (WITH TRIPLETS?!?!)?

It varies with all women, it seems. My mother was never sick for a minute with any of us, but I had a dreadful time. I’m sorry to say I don’t think you can train yourself not to throw up - when you’re pregnant, it just happens.
My first pregnancy, the nausea started around 10 weeks and was pretty much constant. [name]Both[/name] the nausea and vomiting were more manageable if I made sure to never let myself get too hungry - but this is tricky when the thought of food makes you sick. The vomiting stopped abruptly at 17 weeks but the nausea continued til I delivered at 33 weeks. It seemed to help to eat peanut butter on crackers or half a peanut butter sandwich before I even got out of bed in the morning.
With the second pregnancy, I got sick earlier and more intensely. It didn’t matter what time or what I ate. I threw up all day long, 3 or 4 or more times. It’s really disgusting, especially when you have to throw up in a public restroom at work. I lost 20 pounds and had to go on anti-vomiting medication which helped a little, especially during the day. I was sick the whole pregancy from about 8 weeks to 38 when I delivered. Also (this is TMI), because I had previously carried a baby, there were other more disgusting things that happened when I vomited. Apparently totally normal but seriously demoralizing. So I had to sit on the toilet and vomit into a trash can or something.
But like others have said, you manage to get through it. And like labor, the memory kind of fades and I start to wonder what the big deal about it was, anyway. I have two beautful, healthy girls and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I had bad morning sickness (all day more like it) with both children. [name]Both[/name] times it started around six weeks and finally ended around twenty weeks. However I found the anti-nausea drug Zofran to be AMAZING! When I took it I was able to function. I still felt kind of queasy at times but I didn’t throw up while taking it and it allowed me to function. I tried a lot of natural things but it was the only thing that helped me.

[name]Just[/name] wanted to add, I’m now halfway thru Week 20, and nada on the nausea front. No food aversions either - I am very sensitive to smells but honestly, I always am so that’s no different for me. Not one minute of nausea, no vomiting. Still plenty of headaches, back is starting to ache, but otherwise it’s smooth sailing.

Going to go find the nearest piece of wood and knock on it for about 20 minutes now.

I threw up only twice in the beginning, but I had nausea throughout my entire pregnancy! I ate a lot of graham crackers. Munching on something helped curb the nausea. I don’t want to scare you, my mom told me she never had any nausea at all and plenty of people I know just had it in the very beginning, I’m just lucky I guess. The morning after I gave birth I woke up and realized the nausea was finally gone! I couldn’t believe that I made it through that long with it! But somehow you make it through regardless of what your pregnancy symptoms are. And they’re so varied. I never had a single craving, I never waddled, I only had heartburn once or twice and it was probably a result of bad diet choices anyway!

I have the works. Nausea, vomiting, food aversion, sensitivity to smells.
with number 1. Throwing up about three times a day for about 6 months. Nausea all day medicine helped a little. Threw up during and after delivery.
With number 2. [name]Constant[/name] nausea but only throwing up every couple days or for a few days in groups. Threw up during labor but not after.
with this one, number 3. [name]Constant[/name] nausea was throwing up about twice a day to throwing up once a day or once every other day. Hate most smells hate most foods the thought of most foods and certainly the smell of most foods. Have a constant bitter taste in my mouth also a side effect of pregnancy. Ice and I mean ice cold water with lots of lemon has helped. I also get motion sickness now.

This thread is really old. Apparently Bostonsavy is now pregnant but have seen her around the board.
