Nazarene

Thoughts? Impressions? Reactions? Experiences?

Curious to hear Nameberry feedback. Hubby and I both are very intrigued by Nazarene. It has rocketed to the top of our list! To me, it has a vintage vibe without being overtly old-lady. And I love that it’s an of-the-beaten-path Biblical name.

[name]Love[/name] to hear what you think!

I think it looks incomplete without “Church of the” in front of it, and since can be used as another name for [name]Jesus[/name] and is basically the word for “[name]Christian[/name]” in some languages, it’s a little too weighty for me. I get less of a vintage vibe and more of an extreme religious vibe.

I’m sorry; I wish I was being more positive. The other names in your siggie are so beautiful. I just don’t feel like Nazarene fits in at all.

I like it… reminds me of [name]Jesus[/name].

I [name]LOVE[/name] Nazarene, and have had it on my list for several months. My love for it began when I stumbled upon the name [name]Mazarine[/name] on these forums and went crazy over that name for a while, then I realized one day that I mostly liked [name]Mazarine[/name] because it sounds like Nazarene, so why not go with the real thing. I love that the name is a shout-out to [name]Jesus[/name]’ childhood hometown. But I would probably only ever use Nazarene as a middle name, whereas I would have no problem using [name]Mazarine[/name] as a first name–I don’t know why I feel differently about them like that. Something about Nazarene just doesn’t quite feel namey enough to use as a first. I would love to meet someone else’s child named Nazarene though. Or [name]Nazareth[/name].

I really like both. HOWEVER… in the Bible [name]Jesus[/name] comes from [name]Nazareth[/name] because it is a lowly place. In fact, in one place in the Bible someone comments “can any good come out of [name]Nazareth[/name]?” so… I hate to ruin a beautiful name but better to know now then later.

Having said all of that… I associate lowly with humble… so I WOULD use it as a middle name. But that’s me.

I think its intriguing. It has a lovely sound, but a heavy meaning. I would only use it if you are very religious, or as a middle name.

I agree with the above. I get more of a religious feel than vintage. It would be good name to use if you are a particularly religious person, otherwise it would be strange.

It’s pretty, but I find it severely religious. I reminds me of a name a nun might take. [name]Sister[/name] Nazarene.

I pass a Church of the Nazarene every day on my way to work and was thinking about how lovely it would be as a given name. I like how it is historically rooted yet still sounds very modern. Sort of like Biblical update to [name]Irene[/name] with a dash of [name]Zara[/name] and [name]Natalie[/name], I guess. It is strange for me because I don’t care for other similar Bible word names, like [name]Genesis[/name] or [name]Trinity[/name]. I picture a pretty little girl with dark curls. Overall, I think it would be an interesting choice in either spot, but would probably work best in the middle spot, if you don’t consider yourself particularly religious.

Pretty much this. [name]Way[/name] too much bible for me.

Thanks all! We are believers, so the name is meaningful to us. I like that someone pointed out the connotations of [name]Nazareth[/name] being a ‘lowly’ place. I hadn’t considered that, and it’s food for thought. Loving your feedback!
