Ned

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you get the NN [name_m]Ned[/name_m]? Are there options beside [name_m]Edward[/name_m]? Can it stand alone? Thoughts on the name?

Thanks!

Eddard, [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Edmond[/name_m], [name_m]Eddison[/name_m] / [name_m]Edison[/name_m], [name_m]Edson[/name_m], [name_m]Edvard[/name_m], [name_m]Eduard[/name_m], [name_m]Eduardo[/name_m]… That’s all I can think of off the top of my head, sorry!

In Game of Thrones, the nickname [name_m]Ned[/name_m] was formed from the name Eddard.

I think that it can stand alone!

Other nickname options stem from [name_m]Edmond[/name_m]/[name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Edgar[/name_m], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m]. It’s also short for [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] or [name_m]Nedrick[/name_m]. Or the Biblical name, Nedabiah.

[name_f]My[/name_f] great granddad was an [name_m]Edmond[/name_m] nicknamed [name_m]Ned[/name_m] so that’s what I’d pick

I made up a name once–Nedson. Or any ed name could work, really.

I like [name_m]Ned[/name_m] on his own.

Any of the ‘[name_m]Ed[/name_m]’ names would work I think. Maybe [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]? The only [name_m]Ned[/name_m] I’ve met was actually just called [name_m]Ned[/name_m] and it really suited him so I can see it working on its own.

I love [name_m]Ned[/name_m] about as much as I love [name_m]Ted[/name_m], but [name_m]Ted[/name_m] has the added benefits, in my book, of the adorable [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and of being short for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] as well as [name_m]Edward[/name_m]. I really dislike [name_m]Edward[/name_m].

I think [name_m]Ned[/name_m] could conceivably stand alone, or go for [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. I also do quite like Eddard, although it might be too Game of Thrones for people. It eliminates the harsh dw sound of [name_m]Edward[/name_m], which is what I don’t like about the name.

It definitely stands alone, but I’d pick [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] or [name_m]Edward[/name_m].

I adore [name_m]Ned[/name_m] and I think it can stand alone. There are some nicknames I don’t mind as full names and [name_m]Ned[/name_m] is one that works for me. It doesn’t sound like it’s stuck in childhood and the mere sound of it not only emits a down-to-earth strength but also a natural friendliness. [name_m]Ned[/name_m] is the likeable, happy-go-lucky, guy next door who would be great companion on a camping trip. The world needs more Neds.
