I’m looking to name a character born in the 1940s who would’ve been a bully as a kid in school. The story takes place in this character’s adulthood, but he’s still pretty immature and a bit of a bully as an adult. A name like [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] would be perfect (is acceptable both for a little boy and a grown man who peaked young, and was appropriate for that time period) but I can’t use it due to personal associations.
It would be helpful to know where your story takes place, but since [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] is a diminutive of a traditional English boys name you could try names with similar roots such as [name_u]Bobby[/name_u], [name_m]Johnny[/name_m], [name_u]Billy[/name_u], [name_m]Tommy[/name_m], [name_m]Mike[/name_m], [name_u]Nick[/name_u], [name_m]Dick[/name_m].
I agree with the other poster. It would be helpful to know when the story takes place, and since [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] is a diminutive of an English boys name and also a possible nn for [name_m]Edward[/name_m], you could try names like [name_m]Robert[/name_m] nn [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] or [name_m]Hank[/name_m] if those names work for you, or even [name_m]Johnny[/name_m].
