Need a compromise

Our 4th baby is due Nov 11th, and my husband and I simply cannot agree on a name if [name]Baby[/name] is a boy. I’ve had [name]Simon[/name] or [name]Gideon[/name] in mind and love both of these names equally, but my husband dislikes them both claiming that they sound too much like all the other on/en/an names that are so popular these days. I disagree and think they’re quite respectable ,classic names. His number one and only name choice for a baby boy is [name]Louis[/name]. While I don’t hate this name , I definitely don’t love it. I do like the nickname [name]Louie[/name] however, just not enough to give my baby this name. So I either need to help him into coming around to the names I like, or come up with a whole other name that would make a good compromise with a feel that we both like, but currently I’m stumped.

[name]Stacey[/name]

I agree with you about [name]Simon[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name]. Maybe if you point out the differences with all the other ends in -n names (nearly all feature the long a sound, nearly all or 2 syllables which is different from [name]Gideon[/name]) it will help.

[name]Louis[/name] is a great name. What about [name]Lucas[/name] for similar sound and the Biblical feel of [name]Simon[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name]? [name]Louie[/name] could still be a nickname (in addition to [name]Luke[/name]).

Another thought: [name]Silas[/name]. Has the -s ending of [name]Louis[/name] and the [name]Si[/name] of [name]Simon[/name] (and is Biblical, I think - certainly a saint’s name).

Those are compromise names for [name]Simon[/name] and [name]Louis[/name], but I’m struggling more for [name]Gideon[/name]. [name]Gordon[/name]? [name]Even[/name] though it ends in -n, surely it’s too clunky to feel like [name]Aiden[/name] et al? I realize it’s not everyone’s taste but it has a certain charm. Like [name]Louis[/name], it’s a bit of a dad name, but handsome. Similarly, maybe, for [name]Gregory[/name]?

So:
[name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Gordon[/name]
[name]Gregory[/name].

Good luck!

[name]Lucan[/name] maybe? perhaps [name]Silas[/name]?
Also love [name]Lawrence[/name].

If you could tell us why you don’t like [name]Louis[/name], or maybe what you like about [name]Simon[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name] it might be easier to make suggestions. Right now it’s a little hard with just three names to work from.
[name]Leander[/name]? [name]Lazarus[/name]?
[name]Abel[/name], [name]Simeon[/name], [name]Samson[/name], [name]Graham[/name], [name]Gilead[/name], Macsen/[name]Maxence[/name], [name]Aldous[/name], [name]Clyde[/name]/[name]Clive[/name]/[name]Claude[/name], [name]Jules[/name]/[name]Julius[/name], [name]Caius[/name], [name]Saul[/name], [name]Solomon[/name], [name]Paul[/name], [name]Peter[/name], [name]Quinlan[/name], [name]Monroe[/name]/[name]Munro[/name], [name]Rufus[/name], [name]Soren[/name], [name]Sullivan[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Oscar[/name], [name]Vaughn[/name], [name]Reuben[/name], [name]Ezekiel[/name], [name]Allan[/name], [name]Conrad[/name], [name]Arthur[/name], [name]George[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Callum[/name], [name]Cedric[/name], [name]Clement[/name], [name]Colin[/name], [name]Cyrus[/name], [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Desmond[/name], [name]Fraser[/name], [name]Dominic[/name], [name]Nicholas[/name], [name]Tristan[/name], [name]Ellington[/name], [name]Everard[/name], [name]Franklin[/name], [name]Hadrian[/name], [name]Hayes[/name], [name]Ewan[/name].

I love the name [name]Louis[/name] pronounced like [name]Louie[/name]? As for your boys options, I like [name]Gideon[/name] the best! However I do think [name]Louis[/name] or [name]Louie[/name] is a better option.

Maybe
[name]Gregory[/name], [name]Sampson[/name], [name]George[/name], [name]Holden[/name], [name]Adrian[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Jackson[/name], [name]Tolliver[/name], [name]Xavier[/name], [name]Zachary[/name]?

[name]Bree[/name]

[name]How[/name] about [name]Lucian[/name]/[name]Lucius[/name]. I really like [name]Lucius[/name] at the moment.

Or, how about [name]Guido[/name] in stead of [name]Gideon[/name]?

I don’t think that [name]Simon[/name] or [name]Gideon[/name] sound popular at all. I rather really like [name]Simon[/name]. It’s not used very often, so it’s unique, but not unusual. Like [name]Martin[/name]. A classic underused name. [name]Simon[/name] [name]Louis[/name] would be great.

But what about:
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Ethan[/name]
[name]Adam[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name]
[name]Spencer[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]David[/name]
[name]Joel[/name]
[name]Gavin[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Finn[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Max[/name]
[name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Garrett[/name]
These are all names that are similar to [name]Simon[/name]. What about [name]Levi[/name]?

NAMES SUGGESTED FOR [name]BOTH[/name] [name]SIMON[/name] AND [name]LOUIS[/name]:
[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Garrett[/name]
[name]Gavin[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Spencer[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name]

[name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Gavin[/name]

There are a lot of repeats on this list, like [name]Levi[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Felix[/name], and [name]Gavin[/name]. I got these similar names from the [name]Baby[/name] Names [name]Explorer[/name] on www.babycenter.com. It’s really helpful. You could also plug in [name]Simon[/name], [name]Gideon[/name], and [name]Louis[/name] into something like Nymbler. (www.nymbler.com)

I rather like [name]Owen[/name] and [name]Levi[/name]. [name]Levi[/name] sounds similar to [name]Louie[/name], and it’s a biblical sounding name that would similar to [name]Gideon[/name] or [name]Simon[/name]. And I just like [name]Owen[/name].

Food for thought - when I see “[name]Louis[/name]” I instinctively pronounce it “[name]Louie[/name].” I only pronounce [name]Lewis[/name] as [name]Lou[/name]-ISS. You probably wouldn’t have much of a problem with it, but maybe I’m not the only one who would do this.

I much prefer [name]Louis[/name] pronounced as “[name]Louie[/name]” so maybe if I focus on that it will grow on me. Or maybe this baby will be a girl and I won’t even have to worry about a boy name! Thanks for all the inspiration!
