First time poster, would appreciate any help!
Due with a baby girl next month, and her big sister has nicknamed her “[name_f]Mimi[/name_f]” which is fun, but we do want a full name that will grow with her, and will go with the uber tricky last name of “hunt”!
[name_m]Hunt[/name_m] as a last name means no “k” sounds at the end of a name (say [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_m]Hunt[/name_m] and you’ll see why), no starting with C or K(C. [name_m]Hunt[/name_m]), no “el” beginning names (ellie or ella nn turns into elephant). Names ending in “s” sound turn into lisps sounds with hunt following, and one syllable or descending intonations sound really clunky/choppy.
It gets pretty frustrating!! We do like older, feminine names (evangeline, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], etc), and really love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] but it is very popular and would rhyme with big sister AND all of the girl cousins (“ia” ending).
If you made it through that, bless you, haha! please help name our second girl!
I also like these names with Hunt:
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
Avalee
Novalee
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_f]Miranda[/name_f] [name_m]Hunt[/name_m] (still get to use the [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] nickname)
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] [name_m]Hunt[/name_m]
[name_f]Viola[/name_f] [name_m]Hunt[/name_m]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_m]Hunt[/name_m]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_m]Hunt[/name_m]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_m]Hunt[/name_m]
I really like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] too, plus you could use the nickname [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] with this! (however it depends on how ‘rhymy’ it is - for example [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] would not sound good… but you could maybe get away with it if it wasn’t as rhymy as that??)
I love those suggestions, and am torn about [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] …It rhymes pretty exactly with the others’ names ! Maybe if we called her [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] most of the time…
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] was the first name that came to mind, though it has the -ia ending. It would work well with [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], though I like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_m]Hunt[/name_m]. Is that on your list?
My mom’s maiden name was [name_m]Hunt[/name_m]! I’ve always loved that last name… Didn’t realize it was so hard to pick names to go with it though! My mom is from a family of 5 kids named [name_m]Stephen[/name_m], [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f], [name_f]Maureen[/name_f], [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] (my mom), and [name_f]Carol[/name_f]. I wouldn’t choose any of those names for a future child though… Here are my suggestions (sorry for repeats):
I know someone called [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] who only ever goes by [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]. She has done since being tiny and never gets [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]! So I definitely think it could work!
I love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] too but see the popularity issue and the rhyming issue.
Have you considered [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] or [name_f]Emily[/name_f] both with nn [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] instead?
For [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] names that fit your criteria my first thought was [name_u]Marian[/name_u]. But I also like [name_f]Merida[/name_f], [name_f]Miranda[/name_f], [name_f]Mariah[/name_f], [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], [name_f]Araminta[/name_f], [name_f]Marietta[/name_f], [name_f]Mitzi[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (though then you have may hunt), [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f], [name_f]Mariposa[/name_f], [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], [name_f]Minerva[/name_f], [name_f]Mimosa[/name_f] (yes it’s also a plant name), and [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f].
I went to High school with a [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]. Her real name was [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (I can’t remember her middle but it was supposed to be said together like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]). Her sister couldn’t pronounce her name and called her [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]. So she ended up going by [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]. It was cute but I didn’t think overly cutesy. It helps that she was a nice girl and I have very positive association with the name. I think you can be a [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] as an adult too. So what about just [name_f]Mary[/name_f]? It’s as vintage as you can get but not common at all right now. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_m]Isadore[/name_m] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Linea[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]? I think it’s hipster without trying too hard. I think it’s precious that you daughter is already calling her [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]. My son named our last baby (not intentionally but he was just convinced [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] was her name and we couldn’t talk him out of it). I have to say I’ve grown to love [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]'s name and it is so sweet that the brother who she adores named her.
Otherwise, I like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and just calling her [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] ([name_f]Amelia[/name_f]'s great but it is popular and like you said it rhymes with other names).
Thanks everyone for your kind help and honesty. I think we’re going to bite the bullet and name her “[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]” and call her [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] (like we already do! ) She just seems like an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]… We polled family members today, and everyone liked it A LOT, despite our fears.
The sisters will rhyme, but we already call the eldest by a non rhyming nickname (lulu) the majority of the time anyway!
I should step in and say my first daughter nicknamed my belly bump [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] too. Then once the baby was born we called her [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] for real. It’s a lovely name and we receive so many comments on it now.
