Long story short, I have battled infertility (PCOS specifically) for almost 4 years trying to get pregnant. I finally got pregnant in April. There were complications from the beginning. My HCG was low and even dropped at one point before it finally started acting normal. It took weeks for them to find the pregnancy and was suspected ectopic for weeks. I was having blood work every 2 days for 2 weeks and an ultrasound every week for 5 weeks. We were told I would probably miscarry from the beginning.
At the time, we did not know it was twins and decided to name our baby after reading it can really help with the grieving process. We didn’t know the gender so we just picked something meaningful. We looked into things relating to months that were important in my pregnancy. Lily is my fiance’s favorite girl name and right after mentioning it, I googled “May birth flower” (May is when I found out I was pregnant and when most of this happened) and saw this:
May’s birth flower is the lily of the valley, which signifies sweetness, humility, and a return to happiness. If you want to show your loved one that your life is complete with them, give them a few lilies of the valley.
We took that as a sign and named our baby Lily. We gave it a middle name too just like we would any baby. We picked Primrose because it is one of the birth flowers of February (our anniversary is in Feb.) and said:
The other February flower is the primrose, which lets someone know you can’t live without them.
So Lily Primrose. Yes, it’s flowery but it has a lot of meaning to us.
Around 6.5 weeks, they finally found the pregnancy in my uterus and found that it was twins. They were measuring way behind and the outcome still was not looking good. A week later, I went back and one twin had stopped developing/vanished. The other had grown and continued to do so until 8 weeks 3 days when I finally miscarried on June 6th.
I’m having a rough night. I saw a pregnancy ticker of someone due on the same day I would have been and have been really emotional. I decided it was time to name the twin we didn’t know we had at the time when we picked the first name. We’re just having trouble coming up with ideas and I would love some input. Maybe someone may know meanings of names that I don’t know about to share. My fiance would prefer a boy name since we picked a girl name for the other one but we’re open to girl names too.
I apologize this is so long. Like I said I’m having a rough night and wrote more than anticipated. I want to get a box soon to have as a memory box full of things related to the pregnancy. My ultrasound pictures, hospital bracelets, etc. I would like to add things with their names and feel guilty we have not named the twin yet.
Here are some things related to the pregnancy if these help get ideas for names. I’m open to anything that could have nice meaning though.
April - Conception (Flowers for this month are Daisy & Sweet Pea, birth stone is diamond)
May - Found out I was pregnant, was told I was miscarrying, ultrasounds, etc (Flowers for this month are Lily of the Valley & Hawthorn. Birth stone is Emerald)
June - Miscarried (Flowers for this month are Rose & Honeysuckle. Birth stone is Pearl or Alexandrite)
January - Due date (Flowers for this month are Carnation & Snowdrop. Birth stone is Garnet)
February - A month very important to us. Lots of things happened in this month for us but is not pregnancy related (Flowers for this month are Violet & Primrose. Birth stone is Amethyst)
Winter - Season they were due
Spring - Season conceived/miscarried
The ones standing out to me are Rose and Snowdrop. Especially since the meaning of the white rose is this:
White roses are traditionally associated with marriages and new beginnings, but their quiet beauty has also made them a gesture of remembrance. When the occasion calls for reverence, whether stately or somber, a bouquet of white rose is a perfect way to say, “I’m thinking of you.”
I only know of Eirlys which is a welsh name that means snowdrop. I suppose things related to snow at all could represent the white of the rose, winter, snowdrop.
I’m open to all suggestions.
