I’ve been struggling to come up with a middle name for my main character. Basically I’m renaming her because … reasons. She was born in 2000 in Southwestern [name_m]Ontario[/name_m] and is of Irish heritage. The story takes place a few years into the future, around 2025, and is set in Toronto.
[name_f]Callie[/name_f] is an up-and-coming politician, lawyer, and philosopher. She has red hair and blue eyes if that matters the last name is [name_u]Larkin[/name_u], and she is working class. Her parents’ names are [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] and [name_m]Paul[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u], and they are pretty conventional while [name_f]Callie[/name_f] is a bit of an iconoclast.
Here are the names of a few other characters from the novel just so you get a feel of my naming style as a writer:
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f] [name_u]Andrea[/name_u] [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] [name_m]Henderson[/name_m]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] K. Rodgers
[name_m]Weston[/name_m] [name_u]William[/name_u] Greenwood-Yates
Jean-Vincent “J.V.” [name_m]Martin[/name_m]
[name_m]Abir[/name_m] [name_m]Khan[/name_m] Sarwar
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_u]Reece[/name_u]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] G. [name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] Ignatiev
Here are some middle names that I’ve thought about using but ended up deciding against:
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - too upper crust?
[name_f]Aisling[/name_f] - too heavy on the L’s?
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - also too heavy on the L’s and kinda boring?
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] - too overused? but would fit her background well
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - doesn’t fit her IMO
[name_f]Danielle[/name_f] - used for another character, and the final L is an issue given her last name
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - too basic
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] - too fancy
Does anyone have any tips? I’m at a loss
