We are due in 4.5 months, and have our girl name, and our boy’s first name: [name]Phineas[/name] (nm [name]Finn[/name]).
I want a name that has meaning for us, preferably an individual we admire from history/literature, etc.
I like [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Lysander[/name], which my husband thinks has too many syllables. We are also considering [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Thoreau[/name], which is our front runner at the moment.
Any thoughts on [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Thoreau[/name]? [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Lysander[/name]?
[name]Phineas[/name] [name]Thoreau[/name] flows beautifully! I think you have a keeper there already, I love it…Plus it’s made me want to add [name]Thoreau[/name] to my name list!
All I can think of when I see this name is [name]Phineas[/name] and Ferb…it is a very popular cartoon…to me it would be like nameing your kid SpongeBob…just silly
[name]Every[/name] time I hear the name [name]Phineas[/name] I think of [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Gage[/name] (1823-1860), “an American railroad construction foreman now remembered for his improbable survival of an accident in which a large iron rod was driven completely through his head, destroying much of his brain’s left frontal lobe, and for that injury’s reported effects on his personality and behavior – effects so profound that friends saw him as ‘no longer [name]Gage[/name]’.” (Phineas Gage - Wikipedia) It’s a cool story, and I think [name]Gage[/name] (his LAST name) would be a great middle name.
Of the two names you listed, I like [name]Thoreau[/name].
[name]Phineas[/name] [name]Thoreau[/name] is an awesome name. It’s studious, distinguished, and handsome. I love the connection to [name]Henry[/name] [name]David[/name] [name]Thoreau[/name], which is who I’m assuming [name]Thoreau[/name] is after?
I also thought of [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Gage[/name], but that’s because I’ve been finishing my degree and it’s in Psychology and Crim. [name]Justice[/name] so I think of him first. Most people will think of the cartoon though.
I love [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Lysander[/name] and [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Thoreau[/name]. Those are both very cool and I love them. They’re both winners.
[name]Phineas[/name] [name]Thoreau[/name] is beautiful! I love [name]Henry[/name] [name]David[/name] [name]Thoreau[/name] so I like the literary inspiration.
I like [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Lysander[/name] the most, not very fond of [name]Thoreau[/name] unfortunately. [name]How[/name] about [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Leander[/name] (less repetitive) or [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Orion[/name]?
[name]Phineas[/name] [name]Thoreau[/name] is lovely! I love [name]Lysander[/name] in theory, but [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Lysander[/name] is just too much name for me. Have you considered [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Leander[/name]? It’s a bit less over-the-top imo.
I love [name]Phineas[/name]! I put it on my list because of the character from A Separate [name]Peace[/name]. I think [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Thoreau[/name] sounds better than [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Lysander[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you have any other options that you like? I think one syllable names tend to sound the best (to me) with three syllable first names. Good luck!
I think [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Thoreau[/name] sounds really nice, though I might pair [name]Phineas[/name] with a somewhat more normal middle name. If [name]Thoreau[/name] is for [name]Henry[/name] [name]David[/name] [name]Thoreau[/name], what about [name]Phineas[/name] [name]Henry[/name] or [name]Phineas[/name] [name]David[/name]? I really love [name]Phineas[/name] by the way! It’s on my list
I love [name]Lysander[/name] but I think it is very s-ish and long with [name]Phineas[/name]. I tend to prefer 3-1 rhythm to 3-3.
1 syllable surnames of writers and historic figures:
[name]Phineas[/name] [name]Twain[/name] - Well, okay, the surname of a pen-name, for [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Clemens[/name].
[name]Phineas[/name] [name]Poe[/name] - Perhaps better saved for a future [name]Lysander[/name] due to the alliteration, but I do like [name]Poe[/name] as a name. [name]Lysander[/name] [name]Poe[/name] is pretty nice.
[name]Phineas[/name] Bierce - Okay, I like [name]Ambrose[/name] Bierce but he was a bit of a bastard.
As far as historic figures of interest I don’t know what to recommend because that’s such a prism-of-perspective type thing. I like [name]Nathan[/name] [name]Hale[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]Brown[/name], [name]Cassius[/name] [name]Clay[/name] (the abolitionist [name]Muhammad[/name] [name]Ali[/name]'s father was named after), [name]Patrick[/name] [name]Henry[/name], [name]Thomas[/name] [name]Paine[/name]…? I like [name]Cassius[/name] more than [name]Clay[/name] but have known Clays.
