I need help thinking of middle names. We decided our daughter’s name will be McKinzley. I love [name_f]Kinsley[/name_f] and [name_u]McKinley[/name_u], and my husband likes [name_f]Mckenzie[/name_f] so we combined all 3! But we can’t figure out her middle name; right now we are debating between [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Brielle[/name_f], and [name_u]Blaize[/name_u]. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is my absolute favorite, but we are still looking for other options to choose from. Any ideas?? Last name is [name_m]Miller[/name_m]
[name_f]Mckenzie[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Kinsley[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_u]McKinley[/name_u] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_f]Kinsley[/name_f] [name_f]Bree[/name_f]
[name_f]Mckenzie[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Mckenzie[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f]
Well, McKinzley [name_m]Miller[/name_m] is a lot of m’s and l’s, so I was thinking maybe something short with no l’s and M’s. And since McKinzley is so unique, maybe something a little more common.
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] is a good choice! 1 syllable (or short) names probably work best. Also, maybe something a little girlier since Mckinzley isn’t very girly [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Also, names that don’t end with the “ey” sound.
Some other ideas: [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_f]Erin[/name_f], [name_f]Faith[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Diana[/name_f].
I would really consider that name if I were you.
If not,
McKinzley [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
McKinzley [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
McKinzley [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
McKinzley [name_f]Anne[/name_f]
Mckinzley [name_f]Willow[/name_f]
McKinzley [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
McKinzley [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
McKinzley [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
Since McKinzley is very unusual, I would give her a more common feminine middle name. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is my favorite of your list. I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
I think that if you’re set on McKinzley then pp is right and that a simple, single-syllable middle name works best - to my ear, [name_f]Grace[/name_f] seems like the best option from your list. I would also consider [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u] (which I don’t usually go in for but in this instance I think it works) and [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. I’m going to caveat all of this though; if it was me I would go for an unadulterated name from your original list as a first name - possibly [name_u]McKinley[/name_u] (as in the mountain) or even [name_m]Denali[/name_m]?! Somehow the amalgamated name with the Mc at the front of it feels a little trying to me…
McKinzley feels juvenile and indulgent; something only an preteen could dream up. A prime example of how more is not necessarily better. It is the worst tryndee smoosh I have ever heard. And it’s a tongue-twister, to top everything off! If you truly are a mom-to-be, I strongly urge you to reconsider. At least simplify. A simple mn is NOT sufficient. McKinzley may sound “cute” now but can you really imagine that on a successful woman? A grandmother?
Something traditional would be best like Sophia, Grace, Lucille, Ruth, Anna etc. That being said McKinzley will probably have to constantly correct people on her name since it is a mash up…she will likely get called Mackenzie all the time since that is so much more popular. It’s your kid and it’s up to you though…just something to think about. Also, imo the whole “Mc” for the beginning of girls names will really date them. We really like the name McKenna but decided against it. I don’t want our daughter to be introduced to someone in 40 years and have that person think “Oh, Mckenna (same goes for Mackenzie, McKinley etc), she must have been born around 2010 with a name like that”. Most women don’t really like things that date them, especially as they age and I think names are no exception to this.
I like ice cream. I like sushi. I like popcorn. If I had to pick only one to eat, I would pick one, I wouldn’t just smush them all together until what I ended up with was way worse than just one by itself. You know?
McKinzley [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is ok, it’s just such a common middle name. maybe something a tad different that is simple that will compliment McKinzley…
McKinzley [name_u]Jay[/name_u] (blue jay)
McKinzley [name_u]Evan[/name_u] …means God is gracious
McKinzley [name_f]Faye[/name_f] …means fairy
McKinzley [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], compassionate friend
McKinzley [name_u]Rae[/name_u] … Ewe, a female sheep
McKinzley [name_m]Austin[/name_m] …[name_m]Austin[/name_m] means magnificent
Sorry if I was rude in my last post, I didn’t see you write your name. I though you forgot to write the name. McKinzley is nice
Sorry, but if you’re coming to Nameberry to and throw out a name like McKinzley, you’re going to have it rejected.
Double think her name. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you really want her name to forever be a very trendy-looking smash up of two names that you loved but couldn’t agree on, so went with neither? I’d rather be named something that my parents truly loved or a name that has meaning.
If you stick with it, be sure to use a very down to [name_f]Earth[/name_f], straight-shooting name as a middle, because she very well may choose to use most in the future.
If you’re set on McKinzley, please stick it in the middle, so your child won’t have to be embarrassed by it so frequently. I speak from experience…my parents used a made-up word for my middle name…so embarrassing at graduations!
Ok I understand lots of berries dont like unique spellings and “made up” names, but some of you are very rude! You guys do have some good points I guess, but these negative comments haven’t really changed my mind on her name. Btw, we’re planning on calling her [name_f]Kinzley[/name_f] for a nn; I forgot to mention that. So those of you that hate McKinzley, do you hate [name_f]Kinzley[/name_f]/[name_f]Kinsley[/name_f] too or is it just the added “Mc” that you don’t like? Also, [name_u]McKinley[/name_u] for a girl is up 23% this week on nameberry, and we basically just added a “z” to [name_u]McKinley[/name_u] so is it really that terrible?
Waverly123, I agree with what you said about not using I’s and M’s and not using the “ey” sound. [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is the perfect middle name, the only reason we’re still debating is because my hubby isn’t totally sure about it
Iamamiam, I see what you mean about McKinzley sounding weird on an adult, but there are lots of names that sound weird on an adult [name_f]IMO[/name_f]
Also, I appreciate the input from those of you who offered middle name suggestions. After all, that’s what I asked for… When I created this post I honestly didn’t expect to get bashed for the first name we chose
The ‘z’ sound followed by the ‘l’ sound, is the problem I have w/McKinzley…it makes it sound a bit grizzly to me…just too much going on in that name. [name_f]McKenna[/name_f], [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] or [name_f]McKenzie[/name_f] are all viable options. If you want something more unique, I suggest checking genforum surnames under ‘Mc’ or ‘[name_m]Mac[/name_m]’. There will probably several that are rare, but reasonable. Good luck!
rkrd, thanks for the input. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_f]Kinsley[/name_f]? I mean since it has the “z” sound before the “l” also. We will be calling her that a lot if we stick with McKinzley
[name_f]Kinsley[/name_f] is better–less cluttered. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a suggestion from my family tree, but you might like Macquelaine? It’s a legitimate [name_m]French[/name_m] name Anglicized to MacLan or McClain. NN ‘[name_f]Lainy[/name_f]’ or ‘[name_m]Mac[/name_m]/Maq’ would work. I’d just like to see you choose something w/legitimate roots. I like [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] or [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] for a mn. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is also a solid choice.
