[name]Love[/name] the name so no there is no changing my mind about adding it to the top of my list. All it needs is a great middle name to go with it. Any suggestions?
Also what names have a similar feel or vibe to [name]Duke[/name]? Not like royalty or origin just the same type of style. Thanks!
Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Their not really my style or they donât fit right for me but Iâm sure something will come up. [name]Nicole[/name] your names where a lot closer to my style but I just didnât like how they sounded with [name]Duke[/name].
[name]DUKE[/name]?? Seriously, I wonder if people realize theyâre having kids that will grow up to be adults and not puppies growing up to be dogs. Facepalm to the posterâs friend who named their kids [name]Duke[/name] and [name]Boss[/name]âŚ
This was totally rude and unnecessary. It appears that you just recently joined this site, so maybe you donât knowâŚpeople come here for help and advice, not criticism. She was not asking for anyoneâs opinion of [name]Duke[/name].
She asked what other names are similar to [name]Duke[/name] and I said it was a dogâs name. Thatâs my opinion and people need to realize that these are the reactions theyâre going to get with their child. [name]Don[/name]'t you think Blanket [name]Jackson[/name] wished his dad went on Nameberry and asked about âBlanketâ as a name? [name]Just[/name] so 1,000 people could say âwow, thatâs an awful name MJ, maybe you should lay off the medsâ. Then Blanket could have a real name to grow up with and the king of pop would still be alive.
But if you want me to be supportive then I guess [name]Rex[/name], Fido, or Spot would also be good alternatives to [name]Duke[/name].
Also did you know Dooky means poo? Youâre really settinâ this kid up. Or theyâre gonna be like âWow, did your parents go to [name]Duke[/name]?â
Well actually, âBlanketâ [name]Jackson[/name] does have a a real name. Its [name]Prince[/name] [name]Michael[/name] [name]Jackson[/name] II, which isnât terrific, but certainly is better than if it was Blanket on the birth certificate.
[name]Duke[/name] isnât really my style, but I think [name]Rory[/name], [name]Hart[/name], [name]Levi[/name], [name]Drake[/name], and [name]Grant[/name] have similar feels.
I like [name]Duke[/name], it sounds jazzy
Straight away, like a PP mentioned, I thought of [name]Elliot[/name], but if you donât like it, then how aboutâŚ
[name]Elliot[/name] has never really been my style, donât get me wrong I like the name and the way it sounds with [name]Duke[/name] but its just not my taste.
But you did mention [name]Nathaniel[/name] which is a name I love and have even thought about picking for a first name before. I really like the way [name]Duke[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] looks and sounds. It could even be switched and still have a good feel for me. So thanks for the suggestion.
***On a side note for all the people who more or less made fun of my name choice. Itâs ok! I know that a lot of people where going to hate it and voice that they hate it even though I just wanted suggestions for a middle name. It doesnât bother me anymore. We all have different opinions on what makes a good name and what doesnât. So Iâm ok with the criticism of my name choices as long as people back off when I say âI know you donât like the name and why you donât like it but it doesnât make me love it any less and it is my decision. Thanks for your imput anyway.â ***
I donât have any mn suggestions for you, but I just wanted to say that I really like the name [name]Duke[/name]! My first association goes to the famous Hawaiian surfer, [name]Duke[/name] Kahanamoku. Itâs true that itâs a popular name choice for dogs, but [name]Max[/name] was the most popular dog name for a while and I know lots of little boys with that name or one of itâs many variants (same with [name]Cooper[/name]). I think you are just ahead of the curve for whatâs coolâŚlike when [name]Julia[/name] [name]Roberts[/name] named her daughter [name]Hazel[/name] and many people thought that was an odd choice at first. I think what some people consider to be âpurely dog namesâ will soon become commonplace for kids in the years ahead. By the way, I happen to like [name]Rex[/name] too (haha).
I found this site (most popular dog names in 2008)âŚ
With the exception of a few (i.e. [name]Buddy[/name], Boomer, [name]Buster[/name], [name]Shadow[/name], [name]Lucky[/name], Sparky, [name]Bandit[/name]), most of these names seem pretty wearable and on trend to me.
I donât believe itâs rude to say what other people will think, and to prevent a child from being teased. [name]Duke[/name] is a title, such as the [name]Duke[/name] of Cambridge. Itâs also the name of many pets. I know several children named titles and I always wonder the same thing â whatâs wrong with the parents? For example, I know two children named [name]Lord[/name] and Sir [name]Jones[/name]. Are you really going to be barrister Sir [name]Jones[/name]? Dr Sir [name]Jones[/name]? Honestly. Give the child a real name. ( â[name]Duke[/name]â was [name]Ellington[/name]'s nickname, not his real name.) Like naming your child Satchmo, when [name]Armstrong[/name]'s name was [name]Louis[/name]. Children are not toys. They are human beings and deserve dignity in their names.
I really donât have a problem with using [name]Duke[/name] as a name, and actually quite like it. As long as it isnât in a matchy-matchy sibset (like the aforementioned [name]Duke[/name] & [name]Boss[/name] â euch! â or [name]Lord[/name] & Sir), I think itâs one of the less presumptuous title names. And itâs got lots of great history. Iâd be more worried if you were considering naming your daughter [name]Countess[/name]. I admire your positive attitude here on all the previous input, bderosia.
As for middle namesâŚ[name]Orsino[/name]! [name]Just[/name] kidding! Iâm in the middle of staging Twelfth [name]Night[/name] and couldnât help it! Although, if youâre a [name]Shakespeare[/name] buffâŚ
Hmm, maybe:

[name]Duke[/name] [name]Raoul[/name]
(For some reason I was drawn to lots of names that also have Uâs.)
Any suit your fancy? Tell us what you like, donât, and why, so that we can narrow down your style better.
Ha I do love [name]Shakespeare[/name] but I think Iâll pass on [name]Orsino[/name] although perhaps [name]Oberon[/name] might work. JK! I love that your name choices where a bit more avant-garde than previous posts.
Some of yours that I liked or felt where in the same style as mine where:
â [name]Luther[/name] (although being a devout Baptist I probably would use it because of the Lutheran association)
â [name]Valentine[/name] (this was a beautifully Romantic choice but perhaps a bit too feminine for [name]Duke[/name])
â [name]Tobias[/name]
Since it is rare to run into another [name]Shakespeare[/name] buff and I do love his work I am curious of what characters from [name]Shakespeare[/name]âs works you would like to see as a middle name for [name]Duke[/name]. If only for the fun of it but I may like your reasoning for picking it as well. It doesnât have to be just the sound if there is a character you feel would be suited by [name]Duke[/name] feel free to list why.
Clearly picking a name like [name]Duke[/name] I do have a slightly more avant-garde style for names as well as classic and western names if that helps. Thanks for your help!
