My husband and I need help choosing a name for our second son. Big brother is [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and we have narrowed it down to three names. We’ve continued to go back and forth for the past 2 months without getting any closer to choosing one of the names. DH and I are both very indecisive by nature and our first son was 3 days old before we decided on [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]! Ugh. Please help! BTW, this baby’s middle name is going to be [name_m]John[/name_m].
We both like all 3 names so it’s been difficult to decide. Some of the factors that keep us bouncing between choices are:
[name_m]Declan[/name_m] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] are both very Irish, and neither my husband nor I are Irish (aka…our last name is very russian-sounding)
[name_m]Declan[/name_m] is different and that scares me…I tend to like more common names…tried and true!
Hubby thinks too many people will misspell [name_u]Dylan[/name_u]…I don’t think that is the case
[name_u]Evan[/name_u] is a form of [name_m]John[/name_m] and the middle name is going to be [name_m]John[/name_m]…[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m]?! :-/ (however, we do have a possible alternative MN choice of [name_m]Hank[/name_m]…after a grandpa [name_m]Harry[/name_m])
[name_m]Declan[/name_m] and [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] both end in the same ‘-lan’ as big brother’s name [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
Honest input is welcome…just don’t be mean
Sorry so much info, but I want an informed decision :-). Also, we are not open to [name_m]NEW[/name_m] name suggestions…just comments about the ones we already have.
Thanks so much! [name_u]Baby[/name_u] boy #2 is due any day!
I think [name_m]Declan[/name_m] would be fantastic with [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]! I find [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] very dated. [name_u]Evan[/name_u] is nice, but not as nice as [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] or [name_m]Declan[/name_m].
I actually prefer [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] or [name_u]Evan[/name_u]. I think [name_m]Declan[/name_m] sounds to close to [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], when said out loud. I like all three names, but prefer [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_u]Evan[/name_u].
Idk though, [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] are both 5 letters and end in -lan so should another boy come along (incase you are trying for a girl) it may be hard to usse another name not 5 letters ending in -lan.
The name [name_m]Declan[/name_m] was just never my cup of tea so that’s the only reason I didn’t vote for it.
I agree though [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] is a little redundant.
I love [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] is very handsome - so you did a good job there! I like all your choices now, but they are a little similar to [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]. With the -lan endings, I think I would choose [name_u]Evan[/name_u]. But not with [name_m]John[/name_m]. [name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Hank[/name_m] isn’t a stunning combo necessarily but it has family meaning and there’s nothing objectionable about it.
Personal note: my oldest would have been [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] had she been a boy; my second daughter would have been [name_m]Griffin[/name_m].
[name_m]Declan[/name_m] strikes me as an odd choice if you don’t have Irish roots. But I suppose people use names from other cultures all the time, so I don’t know why I should feel that way. [name_u]Evan[/name_u] sounds the least similar to [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], so that is a plus. If you like names that end in -an, something with a different number of syllables makes it less matchy, e.g. [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] or [name_m]Donovan[/name_m]… or something without another ‘l’ in the middle, e.g. [name_m]Quentin[/name_m] or [name_u]Keegan[/name_u]. Good luck!
Thanks for the input everyone. We are still so torn. We have been through the lists hundreds of times and these are the only 3 names that stand out to us. I’m not sure if it matters since most Americans are of mixed heridity, but I [name_f]DO[/name_f] have Irish in me. I married a man though with a slovakian last name. I guess what I’m walking away with is, everyone has their own opinion and there is no one way to naming your child right…ugh!
Does anyone think [name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] sounds nice? I am trying to refrain from using [name_m]Harry[/name_m], as it is not very popular in the US. Thanks!
