This is a bit pathetic but hear me out
So I originally thought my MC was British, but then I got sick of doing the accent in my head (I’m from Ohio) and decided that she was Canadian instead. I didn’t change her name or anything because I thought it was still a good fit. I’d been set on her name for a pretty long time and I was quite happy with it.
I moved to Toronto shortly thereafter and learned that my MC shared her carefully chosen last name with a filthy rich Irish-British-Canadian family who frankly don’t seem like great people. I originally thought it was a cool detail to add to the story— she could be related to them and deal with her extended family’s reputation, or she could be unrelated to them and have a ‘fun’ time explaining that to everyone. But then I realized that it’s not such a great idea and I would rather spare her of this burden.
Her original last name is [name_m]Weston[/name_m], but given that her first name is [name_f]Emilie[/name_f], and I didn’t want her to have EW as her initials, I gave her both of her parents’ last names.
So I’m at a loss when it comes to thinking of a new last name… her father’s side is [name_f]English[/name_f]-Canadian and kind of rich (although not that rich) so I was thinking about something with an upper class vibe. Something like Whittingham, but that wouldn’t work because I know someone with a name very similar to this & the initials problem comes into play again. Also since [name_f]Emily[/name_f]/Emilie is a very common name, I kind of want the last name to be less common.
Some ideas I’ve had:
[name_m]Dawson[/name_m]
[name_u]Brixton[/name_u]
[name_m]Graeme[/name_m]
[name_m]Hazelton[/name_m] (although it’s also a street near where I live in Toronto)
[name_u]Reed[/name_u] (although that’s kind of common?)
[name_u]Averell[/name_u]
[name_m]Tilden[/name_m]
Hastings
Any help would be appreciated…
