Need a sibling name for Brooks and Marielle

We are due with #3 in 3 weeks and need name suggestions. Our son is [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] and daughter is [name_f]Marielle[/name_f] [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]. Our last name is one syllable. We have always had surprise gender babies so need both boy and girl options. The only girl names we have agreed on are [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], and [name_f]Mia[/name_f] but I worry they may be too popular compared to our other kids names. We can’t agree on any boy names. Help!!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] @Kipgoose, and welcome to Nameberry!

[name_m]Brooks[/name_m] and [name_f]Marielle[/name_f] are awesome names. Judging by the names you’ve listed, you seem to like strongly gendered names, not too common but with history.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_m]Brooks[/name_m] & [name_f]Marielle[/name_f] are very cool. They’re both unique yet recognizable & give me a carefree southern vibe. I love the names [name_f]Mia[/name_f] & [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] (and quite like [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]), but they are all three pretty over done. Maybe not [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] as much, but [name_f]Lily[/name_f] names in general. If that doesn’t bother you, like I said, all lovely choices. But lets see if we can think of something that you may like that is a bit more unique.

Here are a couple solid names that are less than popular but could work well with [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] and [name_f]Marielle[/name_f].

[name_m]Graham[/name_m]/[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_u]Asher[/name_u]/[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]

[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] isn’t quite the same level of popularity as [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Mia[/name_f] and it sounds great with her siblings. I think it’s worth keeping in consideration. If it turns out to be your favourite from the names you can agree on, be confident that it’s a beautiful, classic name and will serve her well. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] on the other hand, I feel is a little too close to [name_f]Marielle[/name_f] as a sister name. [name_f]Mina[/name_f] works a bit better since it adds a new letter. I also have a slight reservation about the ‘ell’ sound at the end of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Marielle[/name_f], but not to the same extent.

There have been some great suggestions already but I would add; [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] or [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_f]Nadine[/name_f], [name_f]Calla[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Alba[/name_f], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] or [name_f]Sabina[/name_f], [name_f]Annalie[/name_f] or [name_f]Annalee[/name_f], [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], and [name_f]Carolina[/name_f].

There isn’t much to go off for boy options. It would help to hear what boy names you and your partner have liked separately so we can look for the middle ground. I’d suggest looking for any overlaps in style and similarities with endings or vowel sounds to narrow down names you might both agree to, and then putting these into name search engines. You could go over each other’s boys names again, this time intentionally trying to find reasons to like a name instead of reasons to cross it off the list. A change in mindset sometimes helps a partner to see what the other loves about a name and to get on board.

Best of luck with your search! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you’ll update us on whatever you decide.

[name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_f]Marielle[/name_f] and [name_m]Laurens[/name_m]

Thanks so much for the suggestions. We are down to the wire (my due date is in 2 days)

We love the suggestion of [name_f]Annalee[/name_f] but I think we have settled on [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] for a girl. We may use one of the family names below as a middle name even for a girl.

We have talked more about boy names and have discussed these:

Sterling
[name_m]Briggs[/name_m] (family name on my side that we both like but I worry it sounds too much like [name_m]Brooks[/name_m])
[name_m]Grant[/name_m] is a family name and my husband’s middle name that we both like and would like to incorporate
[name_u]Jameson[/name_u] (my husband’s mom is 100% Irish)
McCarthy (family name on my husbands side)
[name_u]River[/name_u] (but not sure if we want a [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] and a [name_u]River[/name_u])
I like [name_m]Beckett[/name_m] and [name_m]Beckham[/name_m] but my husband doesn’t as much

Any final suggestions/advice?

I LOVE your taste in names!

[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is perfect.

[name_u]Sterling[/name_u] - very cool, goes well w siblings
[name_m]Briggs[/name_m]- agree it’s too similar to [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_m]Grant[/name_m]- love it!
[name_u]Jameson[/name_u] - reminds me of the whisky :upside_down_face:
McCarthy- nms
[name_u]River[/name_u]- agree it’s a little too theme-y w [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_m]Beckett[/name_m]- I love! Maybe your husband will like [name_u]Bennett[/name_u]? (That is my DS2 name)

Of your boys list I think [name_m]Grant[/name_m] or [name_m]Beckett[/name_m] get my
Vote. Best of luck!

Your due date is so close! It’s great to see you’ve made some progress with your decision. [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is such a lovely name, and goes so well with [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] and [name_f]Marielle[/name_f]. You also have a great list going for boys names.

Let’s talk about [name_m]Briggs[/name_m]. I think it’s fantastic. It hits that sweet spot of being unusual but familiar and easy to spell and pronounce. Plus it’s a family name. But I agree, it is remarkably similar to [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]. One syllable names ending in ‘s’ are uncommon to begin with, so [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] and [name_m]Briggs[/name_m] would be a lot more noticeable than brothers named [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] and [name_u]Julian[/name_u]. I think this level of similarity would likely cause a bit of confusion for people who don’t know your family well. So it might be better reserved for the middle slot. Maybe even [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_m]Briggs[/name_m]. I like the sound of that!

The names that stand out for me are [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m]. [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] because it I enjoy the way it sounds with his siblings, it has an old world charm to me. I also like how it complements [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] as a word name without being overly coordinated. [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] [name_m]Briggs[/name_m], [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] [name_m]Grant[/name_m]. [name_m]Grant[/name_m] fits right in with his siblings, and it sounds like you are both keen to use it somewhere. I love it when family names work out. [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], [name_m]Grant[/name_m] McCarthy or even [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_m]Beckham[/name_m] (since [name_m]Grant[/name_m] is from your husband’s side).

The other names on your list are still great choices. If I could add a few more suggestions, perhaps: [name_m]Gibson[/name_m], [name_m]Xavier[/name_m], [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m], [name_u]Quentin[/name_u], [name_m]Sumner[/name_m], [name_m]Derek[/name_m], [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_m]Aldric[/name_m].
