Need A Strong but Girly Name

I feel like I’ve seen every name in existence and I still cannot decide on a good girl’s name to go with big brother [name]Maximus[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]. We already decided on [name]Dante[/name] [name]Amadeus[/name] for our next boy. As for a girl, we’re lost.

We want strong names that are not in the top 100 and have good meanings. (See why it’s so hard?) [name]Maximus[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] means “Greatest Defender of the People.” [name]Dante[/name] [name]Amadeus[/name] means “Everlasting [name]Love[/name] of God.”

Now to find a girl’s name that meets this criteria. We like French names like [name]Cosette[/name] (Victorious People). My biggest problem at the moment is that my favorite girl’s name is [name]Alexa[/name] but we couldn’t use it since we have [name]Alexander[/name] used already (and it’s too popular for us). Any ideas? Thank you!!

I love [name]Vera[/name] [name]Cosette[/name] as it means “victorious life.”

[name]Eleni[/name] [name]Cosette[/name] or [name]Eleni[/name] anything would be wonderful too! [name]Eleni[/name] is a variant of [name]Helen[/name], meaning “bright, shining one.” I pronounce it ah-lay-knee, the way it’s pronounced in the movie of the same title.

What about [name]Valencia[/name]? I think she would be a perfect sibling for [name]Maximus[/name]. It means strong/brave/healthy depending on where you look, it’s also a place name, a saints name too, or the name of an orange if that matters. I love it for you!

[name]Cosette[/name] does not mean “victorious people”!!! It means “little thing”, and it was created by [name]Victor[/name] [name]Hugo[/name] in the Misérables as the nickname of the main character, an unwanted, abandoned child. I think you may be confusing it with [name]Colette[/name], which does come from [name]Nicole[/name] / [name]Nicholas[/name] / Nikolaos - “victory of the people”.

What about [name]Alexia[/name]? It’s the feminine form of [name]Alexis[/name], and it means “defender” (the same element in [name]Alexander[/name], but a different name). I don’t think it’s strange if your son’s goes by his first name of [name]Maximus[/name].
[name]Alice[/name] or [name]Alix[/name] (“noble kind”)
[name]Axelle[/name] (“my father is my peace”)
[name]Allegra[/name] (“cheerful”)
[name]Alma[/name] (“soul”)
[name]Alta[/name] (“high”)

More ideas:
[name]Lux[/name] (light)
[name]Pax[/name] (peace)
[name]Bellatrix[/name] (warrior)
[name]Victoria[/name], [name]Victory[/name]
[name]Honora[/name] (honour)
[name]Matilda[/name] (strenght in battle)
Bellona (goddess of war)
[name]Edith[/name] (blessed war)
[name]Grisel[/name], [name]Griselda[/name], [name]Zelda[/name] (grey battle)
[name]Roxana[/name], [name]Roxanne[/name] (dawn)
[name]Aurora[/name] (dawn)
Esmée (beloved)
[name]Claire[/name], [name]Clara[/name] (“clear”)
[name]Niamh[/name], [name]Neve[/name] (“bright”)
[name]Beatrix[/name] (“voyager” or “bringer of happiness”)
[name]Felicia[/name] (“happiness”)
[name]Amabel[/name] (“kind”)
[name]Kerensa[/name] (“love”)
[name]Carys[/name] (“love”)
[name]Zoe[/name] (“life”)
[name]Clementine[/name] (“merciful”)
[name]Constance[/name] (“constancy”)

It does according to this site. But okay. I also like [name]Colette[/name].

I’m really liking [name]Matilda[/name], popular or not. Perhaps a first name ending in A with [name]Matilde[/name] as a middle? With complimentary meanings, of course. Any ideas?

The site you mention is not reliable at all when it comes to meanings (neither is nameberry or most baby name books, btw). If you want legitimate proved meanings, go with Behind The Name - especially with foreign names like [name]Cosette[/name] (and btw, the meaning is obvious for most French speakers, so it’s kind of derrogatory in French).

I see it now. [name]Cos[/name]-ette “little thing”. Thanks. It is obvious, I just didn’t think about it. Moving on! [name]Do[/name] you have any other suggestions then?

I’ve decided on [name]Amara[/name] [name]Matilde[/name]. Thanks for helping.
