Need a Theodore alternative

My husband’s deceased father was named [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_m]German[/name_m] pronunciation - Tao). It is a name we both love, but his living mother has very negative feelings towards this name and everything associated with it.

We like that it is a traditional, long name, and honours his [name_m]German[/name_m] heritage, with a snappy nickname. We have a [name_m]German[/name_m] last name starting with a “C”.

Any alternatives that would have the same impact? Or experience naming a baby after a family member that might be considered disrespectful by other family members…

I love your focus on heritage for your husband!
