Need a water name to go Tiffany or...? Name help!

Hello Berries

Need your help. <3

Back story:
Been wanting to change my name for awhile. I think most thought it was a phase (I’ve wanted to change it since I was 10, I’m almost 30). Ashley is a great name, but it’s always felt off on me. And a lot of people shorten it to Ash. I was named after a character played by Linda Purl in a pioneer/Little House on Prairie type movie. But as I got older I wanted to see who inspired my name. Could not find the movie my mom saw. Recently though, we did find the movie… and shock, the characters name that mine was inspired by? Not Ashley. :open_mouth: my mom couldn’t believe it. The characters name was actually, Molly. I don’t know how I feel about this. I’ve tried wearing it …but I don’t think Molly is it either. Bummer, would have been nice to go by what I was originally to be named, plus it’s a water-related name. Oh oh! And, before my mom decided to name me Ashley (I guess), she wanted to name me Alisha but that name went to my cousin instead. So, sorta felt gipped cuz I think the name Alisha is awesome!
& my sister Destiny got the cool name, lol. Would like a name that goes with hers. Sibset awesomeness.

So… now that you know my name history… LOL.

I’m loving the name Tiffany and am trying to find a middle that is water related (I’m a February girl).

But I’m open to other first/middle names. I really liked the idea of Neptune, but somehow can’t seem to find anything to go with it.

At this point, I’m almost ready to just pick names out of hat.

Thanks for your help!

I like [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], but it strikes me as a little dated. There also aren’t many nn options if you get tired of the full name.
If you are set on [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], I would recommend going with an unexpected middle (like [name_u]Neptune[/name_u]) seeing as [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] is fairly common/classic.

Water related name ideas:
[name_f]Maris[/name_f] (“star of the sea” in Latin)
[name_f]Marisol[/name_f]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] (means “remnants of a lake” in Old English)
[name_f]Maya[/name_f] (means water in Hebrew)
[name_f]Nerissa[/name_f] (created by [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m], means water nymph. Similar to [name_u]Neptune[/name_u], but more wearable [name_f]IMO[/name_f])
[name_f]Nessa[/name_f]
[name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_u]Lake[/name_u]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] (means “leaping waters” in Choctaw language. [name_f]IMO[/name_f] this is a more uncommon, whimsical alternative to [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] b/c it’s 3 syllables and starts with a T)
[name_u]Vale[/name_u] (“river valley”)
[name_f]Mira[/name_f] (“sea” or “ocean” in Sanskrit)
[name_f]Posey[/name_f]/[name_f]Posy[/name_f]/[name_m]Poseidon[/name_m]

Out of these, my favorite combos are [name_f]Maris[/name_f] [name_u]Neptune[/name_u], [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_u]Neptune[/name_u], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_u]Vale[/name_u], and [name_f]Nerissa[/name_f] [name_u]Lake[/name_u].
I hope this helps!

[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] would seem outdated on a baby born today, but she’s a nearly thirty year old adult changing her name, so [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] wouldn’t seem dated on her at all. It’s actually rather refreshing to read one of these name-changing posts and see somebody wanting to change their name to something else that suits their age, instead of a name that is currently stylish for babies but would have been really unusual in the year of their birth.

I don’t have any water names to add, but I will second these suggestions:

[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u]
[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]
[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_u]Dylan[/name_u]
[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]
[name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]

Oh, and [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]! (Nameberry says the meaning of Meredith is “great ruler” but I’ve also heard the meaning “lord of the sea”, which ties in with your original idea of Neptune.) I did have one name to add, and I think that might be my favorite, followed by [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] and [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].

Omg I loved reading your response. lol, thank you for your enthusiasm. It’s been hard getting support on this. No one really gets it.
Lol I didn’t get the dated comment either.
I was leaning towards [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] because of Breakfast at [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f]'s and I feel like it just speaks to who I am. And I like that it’s also a name from my time.

Your suggestions are great, I hadn’t seen that meaning of [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] before.
Oh I really like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] in the middle spot, never thought of that. [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is so pretty! My mom suggested [name_f]Jewel[/name_f] as a first and that ties into [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], so that’s awesome. [name_u]Rain[/name_u] and [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] are lovely also.

My best friend says she doesn’t think I look like a [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] though. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that’s a major deal? People have said I look like [name_u]Drew[/name_u] Barrymore, [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] Portman and even once, [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f]. Does [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] still work? Lol.

Thank you mega muffin.

Wow, thank you so much for all the variety!
I like Brooke a lot. But my dads friend I’ve known since a kid has a daughter named Brooklyn so I don’t know about using Brooke. But really like this none the less . Cordelia, Harbor, Lynn, Marlowe… Tiffany Ocean is nice. Rain, River…oooo Tiffany Thalassa is gorgeous! Thank you!

Thank you, I like your idea of having an unexpected middle. Couldn’t picture [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_u]Neptune[/name_u] together until you put the two next to each other. I like it, but it still feels like it’s missing sonething.
[name_m]How[/name_m] does [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_u]Neptune[/name_u] sound? Too much?
I did also find the name [name_f]Tifara[/name_f] and thought maybe I could do that and have my nn be [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f]. So that’s an option.
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u], [name_u]River[/name_u], and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] are my favs from your list. [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_u]Vale[/name_u] is beautiful!

Yes, I think [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] still works. You could probably ask a hundred people what they think a [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] looks like and get a hundred different descriptions, so I wouldn’t worry about it. (For what it is worth, I think [name_u]Drew[/name_u] Barrymore looks a bit like a [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f]!) As long as you like the name and feel like it suits you, that’s the most important thing.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I was shocked to read that you think my name is “awesome” in your first post! I’ve always been attached to it and enjoyed it but nameberry’s writeup on it calls it a"overly literal spelling of [name_f]Alicia[/name_f]"; but you made my day for sure.
Anywho I think name inspiration from Breakfast at [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f]'s is great. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Hepburn is just about my favorite actress of all time. Did you consider the names [name_f]Holiday[/name_f] or Golightly? Maybe as middles? Maybe together with [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] they would be too much of a direct reference but I like the sound of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] Golightly.
I also think [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is a great suggestion. ([name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is beautiful).

Good luck on your quest for a name!

Here are some suggestions that I think have the water relation that you’re looking for, that also pair nicely with your sister [name_f]Destiny[/name_f]'s name:
[name_f]Capri[/name_f]
[name_f]Caprice[/name_f]
Cipriana
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
Sabrina
[name_f]Adriana[/name_f]

I think if you really want to be called [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], you should make that your full/legal name, rather than a nickname for something else like [name_f]Tifara[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] and [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] make a good sibset–both are three syllables end in the “ny” sound, but they’re distinctive enough to stand apart/alone, too.

As far as “looking like” a name–this has always been a perplexing notion to me. I have a fairly common name and so obviously I have met all kinds of people who share my name, and of course we don’t look alike!

Incidentally, I have a pregnant family member who plans on naming her daughter [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f]. Not sure what they’re going to go with as a middle name
