We are planning to name our daughter an “L” name after my dad. But I just can’t find one that I’m in love with. After much agonizing, our top choices are:
I think [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is my favorite, but I’m a little apprehensive about giving her a name that most people in the US are unfamiliar with. Sometimes I love it, but then I start to doubt whether it’s too strange or not pretty enough.
I like [name_u]Logan[/name_u] too, but it took me a while to come around to it as a girl’s name. [name_m]Even[/name_m] now, it just sounds a little too harsh to me.
My husband likes [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] or [name_f]Lenore[/name_f] (he loves the nn [name_f]Leni[/name_f]), but I haven’t been able to get on board with either. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not a fan of the [name_f]Nora[/name_f] sound and they both sound very old to me. And I think we could call [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] [name_f]Leni[/name_f] for short.
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is by far my favorite; I live in the US Midwest and I don’t think many people here would have problems saying it, and you could absolutely get [name_f]Leni[/name_f] as a nickname with it.
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is my favorite of your options. I don’t think there will be a lot of difficulty with pronunciation, but it is probably worth the occasional correction to use the name you love. Would spelling variations help to you to warm to some of the other names? I enjoy the [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] spelling. It feels updated and cosmopolitan to me.
Thanks! I actually suggested [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] a couple months ago, but my husband didn’t like it. (He said it made him think of Eeyore…)
I love [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] followed by [name_u]Logan[/name_u] :). Here’s a few suggestions…
[name_f]Lacey[/name_f]
[name_f]Lara[/name_f]
[name_f]Liana[/name_f]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_u]London[/name_u]
[name_f]Letitia[/name_f]
[name_f]Leila[/name_f]
[name_f]Leora[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Leonie[/name_f]! It is certainly recognisable if you think of it as the feminine form of [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. Another suggestion, given that your husband likes [name_f]Leni[/name_f], is [name_f]Lena[/name_f]?
I like [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] a lot! I’d say if you don’t love [name_f]Lenora[/name_f]/[name_f]Lenore[/name_f], don’t use it. Have you considered [name_f]Leona[/name_f]?
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lenore[/name_f] (fabric conditioner aside) are lovely — the first is bright, sunny and sweet; the latter is all gothic [name_u]Poe[/name_u].
I dislike [name_u]Logan[/name_u], I’m afraid. I’m not a fan of it on a boy, and it doesn’t appeal to me any more on a girl.
While it may not be a very popular or well known name in the states, It’s sounds follows a lot of names trends and I don’t think will raise eyebrows. I think you’ll get overwhelmingly positive feedback if you go with this choice.
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] would be my favorite. [name_f]Leni[/name_f] is so sweet as well! Have you considered [name_f]Lena[/name_f] or [name_f]Leona[/name_f]? It [name_f]Leona[/name_f] especially seems to be a nice compromise between [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lenora[/name_f]. [name_f]Leona[/name_f] nn [name_f]Leni[/name_f] would get my top vote.
[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] is my favorite, but I like [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] even more–it could combine [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], and you could even use [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] as a nn if you like? But as your options are, I’d pick [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] personally. [name_u]Logan[/name_u] on a girl isn’t my cup of tea at all, unfortunately (I have a unisex name, technically, and hate that aspect of my name, and have sort of vowed never to give one to my daughters, but that’s a very personal bias, and there’s nothing wrong with unisex names!), and I’m not terribly keen on a [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] because of one I know (I am a MASSIVE fan of [name_f]Leona[/name_f], though!), so there’s that. I do love the [name_f]Lenora[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] family, though; she’s a gorgeous name!
I think [name_f]Leni[/name_f] is an adorable nn option for [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]/[name_f]Lenora[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonie[/name_f], too! I wish there were more Lenis in the world.
I love [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]/[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] nn [name_f]Leni[/name_f], and have been trying to convince my husband it’s gorgeous. I also really like [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] (you’d pronounce it [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-on-ie right? I’ve only ever met one person with the name and that’s how she pronounced it.
[name_u]Logan[/name_u] just isn’t my taste, on a boy or a girl tbh.
I think we’d pronounce it lee-oh-nee, although I like the lay sound too. I think the latter is how it’s pronounced in [name_f]France[/name_f], but Germany and [name_f]England[/name_f] say lee.
I like [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] best of your choices, and I think the suggestion of [name_f]Leona[/name_f] is perfect for you. I do think [name_f]Leni[/name_f] works as a nickname for either.
I also think [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] would fit, as a suggestion close to [name_u]Logan[/name_u] that might feel more wearable for a girl to you, and still offers the nn [name_f]Leni[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Lenore[/name_f] the best along with [name_f]Leona[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] actually but from your three options I like [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] than [name_f]Lenora[/name_f].
I think all the names are beautiful! I think I like [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] the best, though. I don’t live in the US, but I don’t think anyone I know would mispronounce it.
