We’re expecting our first, a little boy, in about 7 weeks, and we’re having trouble solidifying our name choice. We have a tricky last name–[name]Laura[/name]-- and really like old fashioned, not too trendy but not too “out there” names. Right now, our top picks are:

[name]Franklin[/name]
[name]Harvey[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Calvin[/name]
[name]Levi[/name] (I’m worried this sounds too alliterative with our LN)
We have NO CLUE on a MN, although we’ve tossed around [name]Atticus[/name].
Family names include [name]John[/name], [name]Cyril[/name], [name]Kenneth[/name] but my husband is not a huge fan of incorporating (although I’d like to use some family connection, or maybe a derivative). I’d also love something that lends itself to a cute NN but it’s not a deal breaker.
I really love [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Henry[/name], and [name]Miles[/name] but my other half has vetoed!
What are your favorites? Any suggestions on a MN? Help?
From your list I really like [name]Harvey[/name] [name]Atticus[/name] [name]Laura[/name] and [name]Calvin[/name] [name]Atticus[/name] [name]Laura[/name]. They both sound great together, and since they are both strong, masculine names, they wouldn’t sound too feminine with [name]Laura[/name]. I like [name]Elliot[/name] and [name]Franklin[/name] too, but they don’t work great with [name]Laura[/name]. I really love [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Miles[/name], maybe you could use one of them in the middle if they were vetoed for the first name spot.
I like [name]Franklin[/name] with your last name. [name]How[/name] about [name]Franklin[/name] [name]Elliot[/name]? The only names from your list I really didn’t like with your last name were [name]Harvey[/name] and [name]Levi[/name]. I prefer consonant sound ending first names with your last name, it sounds better to my ears.

Instead of [name]Miles[/name], try [name]Milo[/name], [name]Matteo[/name], or [name]Marius[/name].
Those are the best suggestions I could come up with! Although, I don’t think you can ever find a good substitute for a name that you are absolutely in love with. Here’s some combos with those I suggest:
