Our son is due in [name]July[/name] and we have finally narrowed down our name list to two!
[name]Maxwell[/name]- have a little concern that it’s “going to the dogs”, but love the full name and that it leads to nickname “[name]Max[/name]”
[name]Asher[/name]- love the sound and meaning, would prefer to use the full name, but ok with it being shortened to "[name]Ash[/name]
I also loved [name]Jack[/name] (but wanted a more complete sounding name), [name]Samuel[/name] (too popular), [name]Noah[/name] (way too popular, and also lacks full name/nickname), and [name]Elliot[/name] (lacks nickname), but at the risk of driving my husband batty, I’ve agreed to let go of those and focus on our top two. (And clearly I’ve fully let go as evidenced by my including them here.)
I adore [name]Max[/name], but don’t love [name]Maxwell[/name] as much. I also really like [name]Asher[/name] and agree it wins in the meaning category. I think [name]Ash[/name] is a pretty cool nickname, but you could go either way with [name]Asher[/name], whereas [name]Maxwell[/name] will probably always be [name]Max[/name]. My vote is for [name]Asher[/name]!
I love both names so it really depends how each of them flow with your surname. Lots of human names are given to dogs so I wouldn’t worry too much (as long as you don’t have or know one named [name]Max[/name] or [name]Maxwell[/name]). If you would rather NOT divulge your last name, just let us some information like: what initial it starts with, a word it rhymes with, how many syllables, how it ends etc…anything that can help us decide between the two names. For example, if your surname is [name]Turner[/name], then [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Turner[/name] would sound better than the repetitive [name]Asher[/name] [name]Turner[/name].
Whichever one goes well with your last name would be my pick…
I like both names… [name]Maxwell[/name] reminds me of a strong man and [name]Asher[/name] reminds me of tranquility ( I don’t know the actual meanings of them lol) but id have to say I favor [name]Asher[/name] a liiiittttle bit more
I do love nn [name]MAX[/name], have you thought about [name]Maximus[/name] or [name]Maximilian[/name]? I don’t know why but [name]Asher[/name] sounds so pretentious and preppy to me, much prefer [name]Ash[/name] as a standalone name. Good luck! I struggled a lot to find any boy names I liked, so I totally feel your pain!
I love the name [name]Maxwell[/name] sounds strong and love [name]Max[/name]! It now a lot of little Ashers, very popular where I’m from so makes it too common for me.
While I don’t think you need to worry about [name]Maxwell[/name] going to the dogs, I do think [name]Asher[/name] is much nicer so as long as [name]Asher[/name] goes with your surname [name]Asher[/name] gets my vote.
I like [name]Maxwell[/name] best, although [name]Max[/name] is very popular where I live… I also think [name]Maxim[/name] is a great, quirky way to get to [name]Max[/name]
[name]Asher[/name] is very popular in my corner of Australia, but for girls… with lots of kre8tiv spellings… but if it’s still says boy where you are, I think it would also be fine.
Our last name is [name]Smith[/name]- how unusual, right!?- and I think both names go equally well with it. I do prefer [name]Asher[/name] to [name]Maxwell[/name], but I prefer [name]Max[/name] to [name]Ash[/name]. I think [name]Asher[/name] is in the lead, though, and now we arrive at our second dilemma: the middle name! We really wanted to choose [name]Emerson[/name], Wise, or [name]Sage[/name] (all personally meaningful) but I don’t think any go very nicely with [name]Asher[/name]. I think [name]Asher[/name] may need a more substantive name in the middle. Also a name that doesn’t begin with S or his initials would be unbecoming. Any suggestions?
[name]Both[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] and [name]Max[/name] sound a little better with [name]Smith[/name] compared to [name]Asher[/name] [name]Smith[/name]/[name]Ash[/name] [name]Smith[/name] (to my ears anyway).
[name]Maxwell[/name] Wise and [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Sage[/name] remind me of the TV show “Get Smart” where the secret agent’s name is [name]Maxwell[/name] Smart! [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Emerson[/name] would probably be my pick from your choices.
There are an abundance of s’s in [name]Asher[/name] Wise, [name]Asher[/name] [name]Sage[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] [name]Emerson[/name] so they’re not ideal. Are there any family names you would like to use as a middle name?
