When I read it my first thought was [name_f]Isle[/name_f] of [name_u]Skye[/name_u] but then I live in the UK, so maybe that connection is more immediate. It would stop me from using it personally but I don’t think it makes it unusable if it’s the one you love

I’m from [name_u]America[/name_u] and did not make any connection to it whatsoever, and also I don’t think it rhymes, so you’re good.

I would definitely say it depends on where you live. If you’re in or ever might decide to live in the UK, then probably don’t use it. I can’t speak for other nationalities but being from the US, I’d never have known if you hadn’t stated it.

I’m in the US and I did think of it when I read the name. I don’t think it’s a huge problem, but I do think it’s becoming a more popular destination. Iceland became a very popular vacation destination and it kind of seems like the [name_f]Isle[/name_f] of [name_u]Skye[/name_u] is next - you never know, but just a heads up!

I’m in the U.S. and I immediately recognized the connection because I love British literature. That said, I think it’s fine to use the name because it is gorgeous and the association is in no way negative. I say go for it.

  • I did not make the connection when I first saw the same, although I am from Australia.

Is the name [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] too close to the island named “[name_f]Isle[/name_f] of [name_u]Skye[/name_u]” in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]?

  • I personally don’t think it is too similar, maybe if you lived in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], but elswhere i think it is fine. If you named her “[name_f]Isle[/name_f] [name_u]Skye[/name_u]” or “[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_u]Skye[/name_u]” I would say it is too similar but [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is fine :slight_smile:

  • Nope I don’t think so! people who don’t know won’t think about it and those who do won’t make a negative connotation anyway :slight_smile: I just looked up the place and it looks beautiful! definetly not something you would be ashamed of.

I have heard of the island, but didn’t make the connection at all (from Australia here). It’s beautiful, in my opinion.
